Canon have announced the Mark III is now available for pre order.

There are several features in the new specification that I believe will be useful in my photography; here’s the overview:

For $6500 I'll bet it will take nice pictures. Hopefully.

😉

Hey, I’m sure we will all be able to blame the new equipment occasionally, too? I’ve always known that the main problem between the human - camera interface is me... 😳

Camera's do take pictures. They just record them.

I was lucky enough to be able to try one in the UK in November, at a sports event commission. I was very pleased with how it performed for my needs (especially low light capabilities); now I just need to decide if it makes business sense to add it to my capital assets for this year. Business before Art, every time. 😉

According to a spokesman from CES. This camera will be initially tested next month at the Superbowl. Then full usage at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan. Nikon will have their new D6 in time though, for the Olympics. I suspect the price will be about the same as the 1DX Mark 3. The D6 is rumored to have 24 megapixels?

There are several units released last year and have been used for reviews; even Tech Radar finally got their hands on two, at Ascari & Sidney, last month...

General release is February 28, so, while I don’t doubt that there will be a bunch available to use at the SuperBowl... it’s also going to be available at all of the usual retailers, to anyone who wants to order it.

The question about expensive pixels is an interesting one; how many million pixels is “enough”?

Purely from my perspective (which I freely admit is subject to my own distorted reality), 20+ is more than enough when I need to get those photographs WiFi’d from the shoot to the client, in as few minutes as possible. If I ever had the need to create a giant wall with one image, then maybe I’d choose the 5DSR, with the 50+.

Horses for courses. 😉
