Can you tell more about your budget and what sort of portraits you are thinking of? There are many Nikon cameras.

I assume you are asking " what camera is good for TAKING portraits".

Basically any one. My grand daughter makes a living with a D3400. It is more the lens than the camera, and lighting.
The 85mm 1.8 would be a great lens for portraits.

Any current Nikon DSLR or mirrorless camera will be great for portraits, the key is getting the right lens.

This is what I was going to say. Portrait photography requires a good lens, good lighting, and good knowledge of posing. The camera that you use is not as important.

You should have taken the time to read the responses. Frank figured it out for you.

Cameras other than Nikon also take portraits. Suggest considering any one that fits your budget. If portraits are your main area of interest, spend more on an 85mm 1.8.

I do potraits almost exclusively, and completely agree with Low. All the "better" cameras out now are fine. Results are much more a matter of technique than camera body.
