My sister and her husband drove here from California to visit us kinfolk in IL. He likes to brag a lot. I get it that he is a dentist and lives in a big fancy house. Every word out of his mouth is always about him. He also thinks he is an accomplished photographer. As it was, he took approx seven hundred pictures on the way here and wanted me to view them. I says, gotta tell ya Mark, this picture of half a cows butt showing in this old barn pict. may need a little post editing, the olive green trash can in this one of the old tractor might have been left out too. After a good hour of arguing about everything from Ansel Adams needing only a few plates to capture the essence of all that Arcadia park has to offer to what time would they like breakfast in the morning. Makes me wonder? How can someone 3rd from left on the Darwin chart be licensed to pull a tooth?
Typical Sailor.
Find what he liked most and attack it :)
What a really stupid comeback. If you saw his pictures you would quickly see things from my point of view. Typical you say? That makes you dumber than he is!
Just because he may be kind of an egocentric jerk and not much of a photographer doesn't mean he can't be a good dentist.
You know what they say: Dentists just fill in their mistakes.
Gee--upset with the brother-in-law?

Sounds to me like someone is jealous of his brother-in-lawβs success and has to attempt to tear him down. Sad!

Keep in mind that everything you are saying about your brother-in-law reflects directly on your sister who chose him and makes a life with him.
Be kind to your brother-in-law for dentistry has a high rate of suicide compared to other professions. I suspect that taking photos of something other than teeth is a form of "getting away from it all".
By the way....I've always had difficulty with the term "brother-in-law". It's weird to me because he marries your sister...he becomes a brother and thus your sister is now his sister...he is intimate with his sister now. Sounds kind of dysfunctional to me so I always refer to them as "my sister's husband".

Maybe he's over compensating with his photography for his lack of dentistry skills, maybe he's just a legend in his own mind. Whatever the case you only have to put up with him in small doses and for the sake of domestic harmony I would keep most of your experienced opinions to yourself. Besides, he's not your dentist so you can feel bad for all his patients that have to listen to him and can't disagree because they have a mouth full of dental instruments
There's one in every family. Live with it Did you offer to help him improve?
