I agree completely and have thought of dropping out for that reason. There is enough negativity in the world, I don't need to go and find more. Unfortunately, I probably have contributed my fair share, also.

Wow! I don’t see this as happening at all; I don’t see the problem as any worse than it ever was. I don’t make negative comments unless, upon rare occasion, someone asks for them. There are a few folks like you mention around, but for the most part everyone seems congenial and friendly to me. I see some less than positive criticism from now and then, but usually it is because the person deserved it.

Again, I just don’t see the problem.

The moderator should challenge the socially challenged among us and ban them if their behavior does not improve. This site is a lot of fun, but would be even better if there was some supervision.

There is nothing wrong with negative comments. It is how they are conveyed.

I fully agree. New users are asking a question, and expect polite answer. They aren't familiar with with the site. The ONLY stupid question is the oneyou don't ask.

I have noticed that things are getting mighty testy on UHH of late. Instead of being helpful when one has a question (or even when one makes a general comment), it seem there are those just waiting to pounce, have some derogatory response with an attack on the character and intelligence of the person making the post. Perhaps it is because the Hog has become overly saturated with professional photogs, or those who envision themselves as pros, they find the posts so mundane and juvenile. When I first joined quite a few years ago, this site was a much more friendly and welcoming site, now, it seems often it is a site to belittle, chastise, and show one's dominance and superior photographic skills over others. Understand, I am not using a broad brush in making this statement, there are still many good, helpful members on the Hog, I am just dismayed at the increasing "put down" responses I am seeing, as opposed to helpful responses. Also, understand, this is just my personal opinion, I am by no means trying to pass this post on as being based on facts, but you can decide for yourself if there is any fact in what I say. Wishing all Hoggers a safe and happy shooting day, God Bless!

I do not enjoy rudeness, insults, name-calling, or unnecessary condescending remarks.
But, a little bit of satire, sarcasm, or playful banter is not a bad thing.

You are quite right, my friend ! Not only this site, people in general have a tendency to show they are better than thou & they certainly destroy the brotherly feeling of mutual respect. Majority of people are friendly & helpful but just a few rotten eggs ! It costs nothing to be kind. We must learn to leave our ego aside when dealing with others.

Would that not be censorship?

I agree, but don't blame it on pros. Real pros would not bash the people asking the questions!

Makes sense. I wonder who determines if you deserve something else?

My thoughts exactly. Unfortunately, some folks seem not able to tell the difference.

This is more then this forum. If you stay calm and treat people as you would like to be treated
it usually works. Say hello and be polite in an airport or bank or a restaurant.
Generally if you are nice and say something like "boy you are busy today" take your time.
My parents were so polite and as tough as nails. They both helped people whenever they could.

Being polite is how I live. I think that a lot of folks are so involved in themselves they don't
see anyone else.
A long time ago my wife and I and the 2 kids were flying to Europe for a couple of weeks.
We found out that our reservation (done by my travel agent) wasn't in the computer. Think it was
by agent. I said to the "whatever you can do for my family would be very appreciated."
I took them away from the agent kiosk so we wouldn't want to look stressed out travelers.
My wife started to lose her temper. I said it is out of our control just relax. The plane started to
board I thought we maybe staying a night here at JFK in NY.
The agent walked over and gave me 4 tickets "first class" and said have a great time.
Their is no reason for most of the anger seen today here and everywhere. Our kids are
picking up on this. Stop.

Good folks DO seem to be the vast majority, in most every social interaction. It also seems that it doesn’t take a large number of “not- so-good-folks” to
Mess things up. I am, this morning ,NOT SEEING the usual condescending and Rude folks chiming in on this topic, it’s almost as if THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND KNOW THAT WE DO TOO. Sorry about the all caps. I screwed-up. ...........RJM

Possibly, but I believe if a warning is used before banning the rude folks, it would provide more open and pleasant communication.

No. It is called being a responsible adult.
