I have noticed that things are getting mighty testy on UHH of late. Instead of being helpful when one has a question (or even when one makes a general comment), it seem there are those just waiting to pounce, have some derogatory response with an attack on the character and intelligence of the person making the post. Perhaps it is because the Hog has become overly saturated with professional photogs, or those who envision themselves as pros, they find the posts so mundane and juvenile. When I first joined quite a few years ago, this site was a much more friendly and welcoming site, now, it seems often it is a site to belittle, chastise, and show one's dominance and superior photographic skills over others. Understand, I am not using a broad brush in making this statement, there are still many good, helpful members on the Hog, I am just dismayed at the increasing "put down" responses I am seeing, as opposed to helpful responses. Also, understand, this is just my personal opinion, I am by no means trying to pass this post on as being based on facts, but you can decide for yourself if there is any fact in what I say. Wishing all Hoggers a safe and happy shooting day, God Bless!
Sadly, I agree with you. While constructive comments are welcome and helpful, and the right to agree to disagree should always be protected, snarky comments are never useful.
I share your opinion and observations. Thank you.

You're quite right - a shame isn't it!
We all should wait and think before we press that SEND button. I do and I have not regretted deleting a negative comment.

Thank you and the same to you. I agree with your assessment.

In agreement with you;
Mon always said be careful what you say someone maybe listening, have tried to use this all my life, have made mistakes and learned from them. In today’s online anonymity it allows many hateful things to be said. I do believe the good and helpful UHH members far outweigh the negative, as all of us were taught if you don’t have anything good to say don’t say anything.

Every time I see or hear "Let's agree to disagree", I am saddened in that this is equivalent to stopping any and all discussions. It is the same thing as the "Is too!" in the playground. I prefer to see the "right" to disagree be the final, so to speak, line. Just state, "I disagree" and move on. No protection needed. Snarky comments just means that the correspondent has no idea as to how to participate in the conversation.
My opinion, of course.

I agree with you except that I see the “Agree to disagree” as an avenue to be used ONLY when neither party has anything new to add to the subject. It just acknowledges each parties right to their own opinion. Love your comment regarding the snarky comments. In that vein, I agree to agree.
Agreed, and, sadly, it’s becoming more prevalent throughout society, too.
Unfortunately the contentious atmosphere that exists in our world carries over to our everyday lives. I try to not be part of the problem and have found this site to be a relief from the vitriol. The vast majority of the posts are positive and constructive. We should all call out the negativity and denounce the mean spirited.
My filters for screening out non-helpful "dialog" are improving over time. I can apply the skill in many places - Facebook, family discussions, and here, too. I am learning a lot about photography, and the rest is easily skipped.
