Photography is approximately 10 percent of my business, 50 percent videography and 40 percent graphic design (Photoshop and PowerPoint) and multimedia presentations for mediation and trials. My hobby involves 30 percent photography and 70 Carolina Shag Dancing here in Virginia. My interest in this Forum is to improve my skills at the hobby photography level. I am the photographer for three dance clubs, Virginia Shaggers Hall of Fame (Video) and Living Legends of Dance (Video). My club photography includes portrait, small groups, large groups and dancing. Just bought a new, what I consider perfect camera for this type of shooting, Canon D50. Have been very happy with the 400 or so photos I have shot in the past week. So looking forward to tips from other "event" photographers to constantly improve my craft. As for the litigation side it is mostly crash scene photos, injury photos and documentary videos of the impact on people's live and their families as a result of a debilitating injury. These are used in mediation and trials to educate insurance adjusters and juries on the level of injury and their impact on the injured person. Looking forward to learning and more than happy to share my knowledge and skills as well.

Thanks Mike, I am in southern VA on the Bay, Virginia Beach. I grew up in a little town outside of Annapolis called Edgewater which is also on the Bay. Guess I am just a water rat.

Thanks Joe, looking forward to learning some new skills. Like many photographers I am self taught so learning from others is a short cut to success. I just join yesterday and already responded to someone with a question about a camera for their 13 year old daughter. Hope I can contribute as well. Alan

Welcome. I would think your biggest challenges would be DOF and lighting, and those are two of the more interesting challenges we face with moving groups. Sounds like fun work.
The litigation side is probably the most fun and most challenging. My first work was shots with my 4X5 Speed Graphic of a washed out wall behind a motel, I was 15 at the time.

Welcome to the forum. We have something in common. I live in a 55 and older community and my wife is a line dance instructor here at our community. So I too, shoot lots of dancers. Not much video any longer, just stills. I shoot with a Nikon D750 with an SB910 strobe. My tip to you that seems to work for me most of the time is a crank up my ISO to 500 or so and shoot at 125 with an "F" stop 6.3 to 7.1. That gives me some decent depth of field and lights the room pretty well to capture most of the dancers on the floor. I hope that this little tip points you in a direction that you achieve the photos you are look to shoot. Good luck and have fun
