Hi! I'm Jeff from Ithaca, NY. I've gotten into learning this photography hobby over the past two years. Over christmas, an in-law, Jim, pointed out this site to me. I was super excited because it's really genuine and friendly (as opposed to most photography sites that are full of lots of negative toxic masculinity). I just got some film processing supplies and a film scanner in November, so at the moment I'm going all-in experimenting with B&W film photography (35 mm, I have a few minolta SLRs from the 70s). I have to say that the hardest part is keeping all the dust and scratches off the film! The resources I've enjoyed the most, so far, are the YouTube videos from Eduardo Pavez Goye, and the ones from Tony and Chelsea Northrup. And, now, The Ugly Hedgehog, of course!
Anyway, happy New Year everyone! :)
Welcome to the forum Jeff.

Jeff, Happy New Year and welcome aboard. You will discover that most UHH do not like Tony and Chelsea Northrup.
Photography is a great hobby. I have been involved since I was 13.

Oh and that shot is a selfie with a Minolta XD-5, Rokkor-X 35mm prime lens, Ilford HP5+ 400, a flash on the hot shoe, and 1 sec shutter speed in which I waved the camera around on purpose to draw with the xmas tree lights. :)

Thanks! I look forward to all opinions :) I've just found that watching the bits where Tony & Chelsea look at other peoples submitted photos and point out details on how to get different results has very quickly made me aware of a lot of stuff I hadn't thought about, and had been leaving to chance / automatic settings. That was just my experience as a beginner.
don't worry about toxic masculinity … just threaten to pee on their shoes if they give you a hard time ….
ooooom, ooooom, oooom (that's me getting in touch with my inner schmuck :) )

From the shores of Lake Cayuga there sometimes comes to smell, the people say it's Ithica but we know it's just Cornell. Sorry I just couldn't resist. Welcome to the site.
