My father walked in a steel mill outside Pittsburgh. The specialty stainless it produced was used by North American Rockwell to build components for the Apollo moon flights. North American Rockwell built their R&D / fabrication facility next to the mill in the parking lot. The mill ran 3 shifts a day to produce the materials to be fabricated to go to the assembly facility.
Good times for community as employment was at record highs.
