I got one of those 45" wing umbrellas for X-mas. First time using it. What do you guys think?

Well, the girls are adorable and the images are OK, but you have the light pretty much directly over the camera. With light is on the lens-to-subject axis it makes for very flat light. That is not horrible, but it would be better if you moved the light either left or right off center so you create some shadows. It is shadows that give dimension to the face.

I like them. The girls seem to be enjoying themselves and the shots are sharp and well exposed. Cliff knows what he is talking about after looking at his website. I'd be over the moon if it was my first time using that umbrella!

I’m thinking that you’ll never grow tired shooting these lovely young ladies.

Adorable girls? Absolutely! The lighting that he did so well is/was called "Butterfly" or "Beauty" lighting, and it was written into the contracts of many old-timey screen sirens that it was the only lighting allowed for their publicity photos. IMO, the main light was probably moved closer to the subject, giving a "Butterfly" of shadow under the nose.

I certainly was not suggesting the images are not good‚ just a suggestion for improvement. The light is not rally high enough for "butterfly" or "Paramount" lighting. There is not much of a shadow under the nose at all. Looking at the catchlight, it is barely above dead-center.

The one image that does closely have the butterfly look is the one in which one of the girls is seated. Because she is lower, the shadow under her nose does indeed approach the butterfly look.

The OP asked for an opinion and I stand by mine. It is just an opinion.
