In this post, I would like you to look at one of the gems of Ukrainian religious and historical architecture
Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
Founded in 1051 as a cave monastery, the Lavra has been one of the most prominent of spiritual and educational centers of Eastern Orthodox Chtistianity. Over the centuries past, strong fortification walls and a number of churches, which have become timeless architectural monuments of unique Ukrainian Baroc style, have been built. A network of caves has served as a final resting place for the Church's Saints, Highest clergy and the nobles. The main Lavra's structure, Dormition Cathedral had been destroyed in WW ll and totally
reconstructed by 2001.
