This still allowed you to get the shot.

Or get shot. I was stationed at Fort Hood Texas at the time with 8th Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Cav Division. Lots of worn out APCs and Hueys.

If you didn’t, you shoulda kept that Minolta 58mm 1.2.

Back then I had a Petri FT with a 55mm 1:1.8 lens, a 35mm 1:2.8, a 135mm 1:3.5, a 400mm 1:6.3, a 2X TC, and extension bellows. I did not have a flash but later did obtain one, make and model long since forgotten. Since then I obtained a 200mm 1:4 and a second 2X TC. Still have it all and everything works well. Glass is all clear without fungus or dust. I had no bag at that time, just the cases with straps to carry it all over my shoulders. I did have a small case for a movie camera that was bequeathed to me when my father passed away, but it was not sufficient for all I had. I managed to get many good photos of the countries I had visited a few years earlier while in the military and continued to get some for several years after.

Oh, I forgot, I also had a Minolta 16mm spy camera. I came with a flash which was larger than the camera and used the push-in bulbs. It did not get much use.

Not a very big one. A Pentax Spotmatic F, an Asahi Pentax, a 50mm Super Takamar lens, and a Vivitar 135mm lens plus a Vivitar Electronic Flash. Did all I needed it to do at the time.

Was your 43-86 sharp?
Mine was pretty crappy.
Didn’t have it very long.

They made several versions of that lens. I had the original, bad one, for a week — a pro friend gave it to me, and I gave it away, too! My reaction upon viewing slides with an 8X loupe: "Useless piece of [excrement]..."

Quite arguably, it was *Nikon's worst glass ever. Via stimulus generalization, it gave ALL zoom lenses a bad name back then. There are STILL people who won't use zooms because they tried that one!

Exakta VX IIA with 58mm Zeiss Biotar f/2 and a 200mm Vivatar telephoto. Purchased it in 1963 and had it into the '80s. 1975 was about the year I had to have the cloth focal plane shutter replaced. Had small pinholes in it.

Nikon F3, 50mm 1.2 and a 1.8 lens, prior to that I had a Minolta SRT 101 with a 1.4 Rokkor and a 200mm Vivitar lens, which shot better pictures than the Nikon, sorry I sold it to buy the Nikon.

Nikon Ftn, 28mm f1.4, 50mm f1.8, 105mm f3.5, Slick tripod (still have it), lots of filters all new in Hong Kong 1969, don't remember the flash but had one, and other stuff in the big camera bag. It was so hard to sell it and go Digital but I recover nicely with a D700. .. .. I like to get a Rusian (USSR) film camera just because I can now..!

I had a Nikon F2, 50 f1.4, 105 f2.5, Mamiya C330, 80 f2.8, 135 f4.5. Honeywell 892 flash. I still have the gear and use it along with my D200 on occasion.

About all i use now are zoom lenses.
That 43-86 had a pretty useless range for me anyway.
I did try an 85 prime recently that i was selling for a friend.
Before I shipped it, I shot an engagement portrait just to make sure it worked ok.
My 70-200 is sharp, but the 85 is so much easier to handle and it focuses much closer.
If I buy another lens, it will probably be an 85 or 105.

Nikon F (no meter) 43-86 zoom. Koni Omega Rapid. The later was probably the most ergonomic medium format ever made.

Leica M3 with 50mm dual range f/2 Summicron; 135mm f/4 Hektor; 35mm f/3.5 Elmar; Weston Master III light meter; Visoflex reflex housing; Leitz collapsible flash; assorted Leitz filters; Leitz table top folding tripod; Leitz ever-ready camera case and Leitz custom leather case for all of the above (except the Visoflex); Perrin Pro-bag; Davidson Star D Mark III tripod; Vivitar 283 speedlight with off camera bracket; as well as my darkroom equipment.

I bought the camera and Summicron new in 1956 and it cost me a month's salary. I still have all of it (except the dark room) and use the Leica occasionally for B&W.
