Someone asked this end-of-year question last year. I guess I get to ask for 2019. Filtering by 2019 as the shooting date, I get "20 lenses" in my LR catalog spread over 1587 images and three cameras, but that count is skewed by the use of extenders. The EF 300 f/2.8L IS II comes in as my #1 when the two extended configurations are merged along with the lens alone, totaling 408. That's 'keepers' in the catalog. The usage number is probably 3x to 4x that number in bursts at airshows.

I was surprised to see the EF 16-35 f/4L IS was the second most used in file count at 256.

I looked at the filters several times as just 1587 images for the calendar year seems surprisingly low. I know I shot less, but that's less than half the 2018 count for the same LR filters that returns 3675.

If you filter and count your images, what surprises did you find? Do you use your own usage data to plan to sell unused lenses / cameras? Or maybe, to change the lenses you'll use more in 2020?

No surprises WRT to the most used lenses:

1) RX10 IV w/ 24-600mm fixed zoom (about 75% of my pix)

2a) A7R II & A7 III with 24-240mm zoom (about 15%)
2b) A7R II & A7 III with Minolta AF 30-70mm zoom (about 5%)

3) A7S with 28-70mm zoom for IR (about 5%)

Most of my photos for 2019 have beeb landscape related. I have used my Nikkor 24-120 lens the most. the majority of my landscape shots, I had a rotary polarizing filter. Primarily to protect the lens, but also enhance questionable skies.

I did a lot of wildlife photos this year as well. Used a Nikkor 400mm lens. My favorites included bobcats, barn owls, big horned owls, black bears, coyotes, and a large variety of birds

I also used a Nikkor 200m-500mm lens for shooting the Reno Air Races. Note that this lens was problematic shooting large amounts of bursts

By a long way my most often used lens is my Canon 24 - 70 L 2.8. A wonderful lens.

My Olympus M.Zuiko ED 12-40 f2.8 PRO is the most versatile lens in my armamentaria. It is sharp, short, light, and pretty fast. Using on my EM1 MarkII gives me great versatility, options and above all satisfaction.

Canon 24-105 F4 L II 40%
Canon 100-400mm L II 35%
Canon 300mm F2.8 II 20%

Did not know I could get this info out of lightroom. Of course this does not include the deleted shots, which I should do more deleting.

CHG,

I am a victim of GAS! I have the following arsenal of lenese for my Canon 6DII and below is the approximate amount of times I use each one. I should probably sell those that are used infrequently, and only keep the ones used most often. There is much overlap, which ones would you suggest I keep, and which to sell?

Prime Lenses
Sigma 15mm f2.8 Fisheye - hardly ever used
Yongnuo 35mm f2.0 - used a few times per year
Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM - used quite often
Canon EF 85mm f1.8 USM - for prtraits only, a few times per year
Sigma 105mm f2.8 OS Macro - most often for flower and insect photos in spring through fall

Zoom Lenses
Sigma 12-24 f4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM - hardly ever used
Canon 24-70 f2.8 L II USM - used most often
Tamron 24-135 f3.5-5.6 72mm - used most often
Tamron 28-300 f3.5-6.3 DI VC PZD - used only for vacations twice per year
Canon 70-200 L f4 IS USM - haven't used in two years
Canon 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM II - used frequently
Sigma 150-600 f5-6.3 OS HSM - used for birding.
CHG, br br I am a victim of GAS! I have the follo... (show quote)

YIKES!!!

I do believe you have more lens than any store would ever carry.
I can easily has a major GAS attack. However, my wife would kill me twice and dispose of my corpse in the wood chipper.
In either case, I'm lucky to have a few lenses.

Happy Shooting!

Got this Nikon55 camera from second hand shop that came with this Nikkor 28-80//F 3.3 to 5.6G Full Frame lens on the D800 with happy results, because it is a only FF auto focus lens I have. But it is somehow a great combination and I am sure in part because the d800 is such a jewel to handle. It makes up for rather low aperture range of the lens.

On my Olympus, I mostly use my 12-50, with the 14-40 coming in second. Since it's micro four thirds, 35 mm equivalent would be 24-100 and 28-80.

No contest. Nikkor 18-200 VR2 on my D7100. Didn't put anything else on it. I did rent a second D7100 for my trip to Kenya, East Africa and mounted a newly-acquired Nikkor 200-500 VR2 on it--took around 400 photos with that combination and about 1600 with my regular gear. All other photos during 2019 were with my standard setup.
