I own the DX version and am very happy with mine. Hard to go wrong with a Nikon prime lens. Happy Holidays.
Happy shooting. I have that lens and love it.

Is your camera full frame or cop sensor?
For prime lenses I've switched from Nikon's to Tamron's SP series primes because they have stabilization. The vibration compensation gives about 3 to 3.5 stops of additional hand holding ability. It helps a lot for low light photos.

I have the FX version, it's a superior lens.
A 35mm was always on my cameras from the 70s to the 2000s. For me at least it was the perfect every day lens.
remember at the full open aperture, even with a 35 mm lens, your DOF is VERY narrow!
I have and enjoy the Yongnuo EF 35mm f/2 (Canon clone) prime lens for the price of about $80! No need for stabilization- use it on a tripod, monopod, etc. Good on a crop camera like the Canon Rebels or full frame. Enjoy your Christmas present! The Canon version sells for almost $300.
Jcday, it's a great lens, we keep it on one of our DX bodies all of the time, and a 10-17mm on another. Have played with it on our FX bodies and even with losing some area, it does a great job. There are lots of videos (and advice) on Youtube but best advice is to take a great many photos of different subjects on auto, and the other modes, then you'll know what you can look forward to with manual shots. Happy shooting and New Year.
We still do not know whether it is a DX or an FX-format lens. This piece of information would definitely help and prevent some wasted time.
I bought one a couple of months ago, and the only photos are very clear. I use it quite often.
I don’t know how the word “only” got inserted. Great lens.
