I go to FedEx Office to have my prints made. I like their silky semi-gloss poster paper. Also know how to ask them to print to compensate for my monitor's darkness in prints.
When I was at my local Costco last week I noticed they no longer have cameras. I have never purchased a camera from Cosco not will I. I use a local mom and pop camera store because service is great.
I Adoramapix for large prints and Costco for calendars. Tried a canvas with Adorama and wasn't particularly pleased with the results. Might have been the picture tho.
I don't use Costco for anything larger than 4X6 because despite my best efforts to the contrary they insist on color correcting them.
Meridian Pro... wonderful!
I printed through Shutterfly for years and was always quite pleased with my prints and photo books. Nowadays, I don't print much, an enlargement for the wall, a few gifts, etc. I used Sam's when I needed prints in a hurry; also canvases, Christmas Cards, collage prints, enlargements, etc. BUT, I found that over the past year their photo customer service disintegrated significantly, to the point that I complained that if they weren't going to provide the service and do a good job of it they should close the department. Little did I know that closing the photo department was eminent ANYWAY. Yes, I know I can still do my order online, but it will be too big a pain to send prints back if they are printed incorrectly. Having a human to talk to in the photo department was always a big positive for me. Sam's customer service in general has gone way down over the past year. We are getting a BJ's here in Pensacola and Sam's is pushing us in their direction. Hopefully they will have a full service photo department.
for 4x6 i use snapfish . .09 a print , and they have many sales . prints have always turned out well , although there is often a little cropping . i have also gotten some books from them . i don't think i would use them if i were going to mount a show .
I've never had to send a print back to Mpix. I've only had one problem with their prints and after discussing the issue they reprinted the entire order.
If MPIX was rated 10th out of 10, what services were given the ratings 1 through 9?

The Costco and Sam's Club near me have eliminated their in store photography department. It is all on line now. I recently used Mpix for holiday gifts and the shipment was delayed because UPS delivered it to the wrong PO. Mpix customer service was wonderful. Kept in touch with me and when 2 days went by without the shipment they printed it again and shipped it with FedEx. I recently saw a list of online places to have images printed and Mpix was 10th out of 10. Where do you get your prints if you don't print them yourself? Thanks in advance.

For routine stuff I use Walgreens. For professional prints I use nationsphotolab.com. They are excellent; 35% off sale right now.
Too bad. That’s where I usually got my passport photos done.
Now, if because of this thread, everyone goes someplace else,
they will be closing all the photo departments.
Like the title infers - PAST TENSE.....
Already gone..... All going away.
Maybe they are.
Maybe they are only closing the real low volume locations.
Know of 4 San Diego area stores with full photo departments, 2 of them in Chula Vista.

If there's a Walgreens near you, they are a great alternative. I have had many excellent prints made by them. They offer a no-questions-asked guarantee; if you're not satisfied they will reprint until you are happy. Best of all, you have a human being to talk with in person!
I spoke with a rep for the photo centers.
He did not have a definitive answer, but stated that not all will be closing (as the thread title implies).
So we (he and I) are surmising that it has to do with volume throughput of those particular photo centers.
∴ Use your local Costco photo center if you want to help keep it open.
(Having the items mailed doesn't help.)
