Well Christmas is over. My credit card is finished with Xmas gifts this year. I set a Xmas limit of $2700, and was able to treat myself out of that limit, to a new Nikon AF-P DX 10-20mm wide angle zoom lens. Price $277. I needed a wider zoom lens than my kit lens, an 18-55mm. I gave bottles of red and white wines to some of my friends, along with giving a half dozen SanDisk 64gb Ultra SD cards to them. Non photography gifts to close relatives were the bigger part of my budget. There are/were some good camera deals this year. The best one I saw, was the Canon 5D Mark 4 camera, selling Brand New for $2000, and the Nikon SB-700 flash unit selling for $296. Nikon and Canon had their customary entry-level, 2 lens kits. Nikon had D3500/D5600 two lens bundle kits. Sold mostly everywhere. What photography equipment did you treat yourself to this Xmas? I call it. From Me To Me Xmas Gifts.

This is why I don't like Xmas.

Not a lot of joy there, it ain’t about buying it’s about giving, if you don’t like giving...

Not really a treat, but a new tool. The Sony a6600, came at $200.00 off and a $160.00 camera bag and Sony memory card. Took it out yesterday hours after I got it, attached it to the Sony 200-600, went out from under a shelter after a big rain storm and found this Coopers Hawk that was soaked and got this shot. New tools are cool.

I guess you'll have to change your moniker!!

Frugal, at best...a Minolta 28mm f/2.8
Very recently made my move from film to digital. No way could I currently acquire what I really wanted. Accidentally happened upon a used Sony a99V a few months ago. Same A-mount as my good ole Minolta Maxxum 7000 (purchased when it first came out). Nice big camera, fits well in my hands. All of my Minolta glass works, despite the difference in the number of contacts. Very happy with this low budget move. Now I can comfortably wait for the next iterations of the Panasonic S1R, Pentax K1ii, or the Nikon D850 (my current top three).

I had a Nikkor 20mm f/2.8 AF-D, that developed a terminal case of fungus. Instead of trying to repair it, I replaced it with another 20mm that's spotless.

Before I replaced it, I took it to my local reliable repair shop; they put it on their equipment and advised me the fungus had already etched several elements. I left it with them so they could salvage parts for other repairs, and got my replacement on Christmas Eve.

I don't really do the holidays but because of sales I bought myself a Sony 70-300mm FE G OSS for my a7iii. First impression based on only about 50 shots is that it's really good and will do exactly what I want. Now I have most of my camera needs taken care of by this and my Sony FE 24-105 FE G. Hmm, we'll see.

Happy Holidays and a Merry New Year to all of you photo fiends and online siblings (we quibble way to much to just be friends).

Well, I bought a Nikon Z50 with the two lens bundle. I am going to take it for a spin this week. I am already impressed with its weight and low light ability. I took a picture of my Christmas tree, unlit, in the evening when all you could really see was the silhouette of the tree. No flash, the picture look like I had the lights on in the room, could see detail if the ornaments. Very nice

Well, more of a pre-Christmas gift to myself. I found I needed or at least wanted another more up to date lens. I bought myself a used smc-Pentax DFA 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens to use on my Pentax K-3, K-5, K-20D cameras. This is much more convenient than using my old Asahi smc-Pentax M 100mm f/4 Macro Lens, manual. This oldie is great for my film cameras. The new one is also a good lens to use as a portrait or short telephoto prime.
