There is one more announcement coming the new professional D6 is also rumored to be unveiled in Jan. In fact I saw that B&H is listing it on their web site (I haven't checked that out)

I will almost certainly buy the D780 when it comes out. I currently have a D500 and D750. I've been disappointed with the autofocus performance of the mirrorless Z series cameras. I will continue with DSLR cameras until they improve the AF performance of the mirrorless Z series cameras a lot.

I'm so totally happy with my awesome D810 and D7200...
They continue to amazing me AND pay the bills... Love them dearly...
And my D3x is fabulous in the studio... will never part ways with that epic Pro Camera...

The good news (for me) about mirrorless is I'm finding awesome deals on screwdriver Pro Nikkors in excellent condition... the mirrorless paradigm shift actually works very well for me :)
The fact that the Z-mount doesn't support screwdriver Nikkors has folks dumping them in droves...
Sometimes you get lucky!

besides... any DSLR with LiveView is a mirrorless camera... lol
thanks for the update daiqngo... looking good for DSLR's for the foreseeable future!

I would guess this is the D760 that they thought would be out by the end of this year. I am anxious to see it.

What problems are you having with AF on the Z camera? I have been using mine for a couple of months shooting basketball, volleyball, and soccer and have no problems with focusing. I also shot a Christmas program and the results were superb.

I have been using the D3s forever, it seems like, for low-light scenarios. And the results continue to be superb when in ultra-high ISO situations, 10-28,000, when I am using Sigma Art lenses. I have the 50mm, 135mm, and the 24-35 Art lenses. A couple months ago, I bought the Z6 and the results with those same lenses have been phenomenal in low light. The basketball shots are brighter and crisper with a much better DR. Colors are truer and I am really delighted with the performance. I recently shot a Christmas play where ISO values are ultra high, in the 10,000-12,800 range and the results were astounding. I am still keeping the D3s though for portraits, but the Z6 is much better at sports.

I rented the Z6 for two weeks not long ago and did side by side comparisons with my D500. The Z6 would often hunt to achieve focus in even slightly dim light. I turned on the low light focusing option in the menus but that didn't seem to help. My D500 would achieve focus on the same subject immediately. My D500 seemed better for continuous AF tracking also.

I thought the image quality of the Z6 was stellar - at least as good or even a touch better than the D500. I liked the menus and the viewfinder of the Z6 a lot - much better thought out than Sony mirrorless cameras.

Yep, my D500 is great at tracking AF also in daylight outdoors for baseball and soccer. But image quality is not good at all in the ultra high ISO gyms that I shoot in. I got the Z6 as a trial replacement for the D3s and so far it’s doing great. Thanks for your honest feedback. Take care

What about the AF performance makes you unhappy? I have been using a Z6 for basketball and soccer for several months now and I don't have any problems that I could not correct with the settings.

I have never had this problem with the Z6 hunting for focus, even when shooting stage or play performances, where the lighting is barely perceptible. It will find focus in extremely low light situations, down to -3.5 EV. I wish that you had asked for help before you sent it back. Quite often, the aperture determines the ability to focus in low light and if you're shooting with the viewfinder vs live view. I always use at least f/1.8 for sports in the low light gyms and then f/5.6 for the plays, stage shots with the 200-500mm lenses. And the quality of the lenses matters too.

Part of my experience with it may be that a DSLR camera will hold the lens aperture wide open until an instant before the shutter opens. If it's an f/2.8 lens and the user has set the aperture to f/8, the camera will still be focusing with the aperture at f/2.8. The mirrorless camera will stop down the aperture to f/8 right away. Of course they focus completely differently - the DSLR using phase detection autofocus and the mirrorless camera using contrast detection autofocus.
