I find it shameful that racism in this country is running rampant. My mother was born in a little town in Poland. She was barely a teenager when the Germans occupied where she lived. She and her family were sent to the concentration camps. She didn't understand why people were cruel and mean. She never understood why her mother, father, brothers and sisters perished in the gas chambers. She survived and was freed when the camps were finally liberated. Before she left Poland, she spoke Polish and Yiddish, a slang of German. She immigrated to Israel which just received its independence. It was a requirement of her citizenship to learn Hebrew. And so she did. She became a Registered Nurse in a major hospital in Jerusalem. After 10 years, she immigrated to this country. A requirement of citizenship was to learn English. She continued her career as a Nurse. She eventually met my father and they got married. My parents raised me to be civil, courteous and respectful to all. I have done the same with my children. When my mother passed away, she spoke 4 languages, one of a unique kind of care givers inspite of all the hatred she saw and experienced.
Racism comes from narrow minded people try to usurp their belief onto yours. If you noticed, I never tried to convert anyone to a life of Judaism. I only presented this thread based upon something I saw while walking.
I truly wish we would have less hatred and racism in the next year.

Happy Holidays!
Happy Shooting!

Actually from G-d's thoughts to my hands. While I tap away at the keyboard, I hope that we photographers can bring a little peace to each other.

Happy Shooting!

Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays! In my family we celebrate, "HanukkahMas".

While my Latkes are plentiful, thick and covered with applesauce, my doctor will have to increase the dose of my cholesterol medication. Oh, Well! Another potato pancake is another ten milligrams of Crestor.

By the way, the new holiday is called,
"ChrisKwanzamuKah."

Happy Shooting!

Thank you so much for the wonderful history lesson from Scruples. And, thanks so much for the comments from all the others for sharing their family stories. My paternal grandparents came here in the 1880's so no one on my father's immediate side perished in the Holocaust but I have often wondered about his extended family. My heart aches and my eyes tear up when I hear survivor stories of what they saw and endured. I was raised as a conservative Christian and still am. I have a deep love for Israel. As a child (born 1948) I never understood why my name was ridiculed and why some teachers made hurtful comments about what they perceived was my religion based simply on my last name. Interestingly though is that I never heard or experienced any anti Semitism within my church, but I did on numerous occasions during my career at IBM. Being part of the UHH community is a blessing to me. The wonderful lesson from Scruples that began this thread and the subsequent comments are to me what this season is about - peace, love and good will to all.

I think that this may be the best post ever. Thanks! I hope that you don't mind, but I sent it to all my friends, both Jewish and Christian.

Not at all. Thank you for the compliment. I'm glad I could share a story, and a photograph. Most of all, I have a wish for everyone to be tolerant of each other.

Happy Shooting!
