A good 25+ years ago I knew a lady in Austin, TX that had a beautiful sofa-size picture hanging on her wall. The picture was sharp and the color was great. When I asked her about it she laughed and went and pulled out a snap-shot of the same picture. She had taken the picture with a $15 - $20.00 110 camera then took the negative back to wallmart to have it blown up. Back then many people would not have considered a 110 a "real" camera, just a toy to use for quick "snap-shots".

I would have to say that the iphone today is considerably more advanced than that 110 camera. Like anything else, if you understand how your iphone camera works, and operate it within its limits and capabiities, then you should expect to get as respectable an image as if you used a dedicated camera of the same caliber.

the day i see professional photographers using an iphone to photograph their clients...that's the day that tells the story.

Is a KIA a real car, compared to a BMW?

Is a cell phone a real phone, compared to a land-line phone?

-------------

I use my cell phone camera very little and I often forget how to use it. The other afternoon I saw a beautiful rainbow, and my phone camera was all I had. So, I got a great shot ... except I realized later that I forgot to save it by pushing another button. So, the camera was real, but that day the photographer (aka, button pusher) was not real.

i had a kia, a car or 2 ago...i thought it was great. leather interior..had 390,000 miles on it when i traded it off. i miss that car. way better than the ford fusion and chrysler mini van i now have. they are pieces of junk.

if i quit buying camera gear...maybe i could afford that bmw. hahahaha

i like the story about the rainbow.....been there done that.

i figured it out...if i go to bed stupid, i wake up stupid. hahahahah

if it has a lens and it records light onto either film or a sensor chip then it is a real camera, Hogger on here (i believe it is silverton?) produces the most amazing, highly detailed, crisp, sharp photos of welders and construction taken on his Ipad. The quality is superb, beyond anything I can do with my Nikon's. One glance at his work will answer even the most skeptical.

I just learned last night that you can down load free HDR aps for your I phone. I would like to see that if anyone out there has used it.

Yes I have, does a good job on still life, more difficult with getting people to sit still for 3 pictures. The big thing is a steady hand and at 75 mines not so steady anymore.

I think it is not the equipment that makes the art, it is the photographer. Dewitt Jones takes great photos, using all kinds of equipment.

Many may automatically answer "no, not really". If you haven't seen it already, take a few minutes to look at Dewitt Jones photo a day album. He is a professional who teaches and publishes. Almost all the photos in his "Celebrate whats right with the world" album are taken and processed with an Iphone. You may find new respect for your iphone.
I do shoot and appreciate my Nikons (D200, D300, D800) but get more photos from my iPhone than I had anticipated! It is always with me!

I have used HDR Fusion for my iPad 3. The pictures are not too bad considering it is a 5 mp camera. I think it is kind of neat with it's extremely deep depth of field. The pictureswork well for screen wallpaper and social media pages.

I recently returned from a "vacation" in Central Europe and I was suprised at the number of people using camera phones and ipads to record their vacations .... it seems to me that if your purpose is to take snapshots .... the phones and pads are a great way to accomplish it ... light weight and acceptable quality for a vacation album .... you would not enter them in competition ...

Would you enter these in a competition?
