Always a great place to buy, excellent service, hope the new owners continue that tradition! Hope the employees were ready for the change.

The owner of Cameta decided to retire and is selling the business. I spoke to Steve who has worked at Cameta for many, many years and he seems to believe that the new owners will be taking over soon and they should be reopening in February. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I have bought a few cameras and lenses from Cameta and the service and merchandise was all excellent. The current owner has earned an excellent reputation for the company. Hopefully the new owner will not change any of that. Time will tell.

I have purchased a camera body and other items from Cameta (online) over the years and always had great service and pricing. I have called several times on different things and always spoke to someone knowledgeable and helpful. If they reopen I hope things will continue they way they were.
PS Last week, I purchased a Manfrotto Tripod from Cametta through Amazon and it has shipped and due to arrive tomorrow.

I've been a loyal customer of Cameta since my days living back on LI and heading down Sunrise Hwy to their store. Always had great service and prices. Remained a loyal customer when I moved and sorry to see them gone. Hopefully they will be able to find a buyer and come back.

And one knee just to be on the safe side.

The store is closed. This is what I received from a friend who works there. "Bill retired and in the process of selling. Deal hasn’t gone through yet but we ran out of stock so we closed earlier than expected."

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that. I was very satisfied with their honesty and service.

At least the owner retired, and did not close due to a lack of business. Thankfully, there are the B&H, Roberts, Adorama, and a couple more that are great to do business with.

I recently purchased a Pentax K70 with a 18-135 mm WR zoom (kit lens) and a special package with several other items (SD card, flash, tripod and a few items) from Cameta through Amazon. The price was in line with the prices at Ricoh and other sites (Adorama, B&H) but I used an Amazon credit card so got some "cash back" for that.) Shipping was fast and everything was well packaged. All arrived in great shape. I had never bought from Cameta but was impressed with the eveything about the transaction. Even though it was through Amazon, it all came from Cameta. I hope the new owner will continue the customer service and reputation of the original store.

Definitely!

I've completely rebuilt a couple of sites, none of which I took down while the new one was being built.
All new pages had their unique name, the new index page (home page) was called "IndexTest" or "NewIndex".
When all was completed and proofed, all I had to do was rename IndexTest to Index on the server, and walla, the new site is active. All of this was done with the old site still running. There was no site down time.

Unless there is a reason they wanted the site inactive...

EDIT: Ahhh. I see the reason from traveler90712...

I am a former customer of Cameta. They provided excellent service. I hate to see them close.

There is no telling if a new owner will keep the same policies as the previous one.

Absolutely....they should fire the web designer....you test the new site in a hidden directory....when it's ready you switch over which takes seconds.

Different scenario, we have more info now...

I have made business with Cameta in the past. I bought a refurb product from them and they gave me a whole year warranty on it. The transaction was a very courteous one and their treatment to the customer was as professional as it could be.
I am sure the new web site will be even better.

That will depend on the new owner, if the deal is finalized. Otherwise there probably woe be one.

Businesses changing ownership are common. Let's hope the service and products sold at the new managed Cameta, are not suspect.
