Is it a tradition to put some kind of gold tinsel on dogs' necks around Christmas? I've seen this on several TV shows lately.

I don't think so Jerry, but the UK sales pitch now is for anything to make money and associate it with Christmas/Easter or what ever holiday they feel will make them money

I wouldn't put tinsel on my dogs, it would drive them crazy. There are some people who will put Christmas suits on their dogs though.

We've got out share of nutters who'll buy the mutt some presents from half the family. All he really wants is my dinner!

In an episode of Midsomer Murders, a scene ten years earlier had a lab with the gold tinsel. He had something similar in the present day scenes. Also, Barnaby's dog had a similar decoration. One other English show featured a dog with a gold tinsel collar.

Speaking of tinsel, years ago, as I let my cat out the front door, I saw a 4" strand of Christmas tree tinsel hanging out of her rear end. "No, I wasn't eating tinsel off the tree." : )

I have read several times that you should keep pets away from tinsel because they will eat it and it could be harmful to them. Putting it around their necks would not be safe I wouldn't think.

I like to keep my animals "naked" year round.

Not that I know. Our Border Collie would strongly object to any thing like that around its neck.

We have cats. No tinsel ! Lol
Obvious “rear end” reasons.
Use garland instead.
Not sure about the Brits and their dogs.
Merry Christmas Hogs 🎄

Ha, Ha, Ha! Still cracking up. I go through the stores and see all this expensive "stuff", dog cookies, chewies, boots, coats, etc., and think, "Boy, there are a lot of fast-thinking, business-minded snake-oil salesman capitalizing on Americans' love and devotion to their pets." And, you are right; all they really want is your dinner.

Jerry, have you seen the latest craze for older (and younger) women? Tinsel woven into their hair. It’s called Pixie Hair. Kind of cute, actually.
It’s not only for the holidays.

Insane "love and devotion to their pets." Expensive, dirty, time consuming burden for what? I want human companionship, not animal.
