Hello! I recently upgraded from a Nikon D200 to a D610. I really like the full frame camera and got a great deal as well. Been doing some extensive searches on you tube to see if its possible to do wireless tethering to an Android device or laptop. Not finding much. Maybe the tech. is to old on the D610? Any help would be appreciated..

I’d suggest buying a CamRanger.

Yes, you can tether the D610 to a phone.
You need the WU-1b adapter.

Nikon's WMU app is one possible choice.
Qdslrdashboard is another.

My issue has been that phones want to see the internet on a wifi connection and the camera does not connect through. So the phones want to drop the link. Sometimes there is an option to stay connected to the wifi anyway.

This does not connect with a PC, though.

A CamRanger, while not cheap, is so much better in every way. It does not need a WiFi network, and you can connect it to a phone, Tablet, IPad, PC, etc. and the comprehensive SW is completely integrated. The range is excellent, connection is rock solid, image (raw or JPEG) transfers are fast, and it also provides complete camera control including an intervelometer. It also has its own power source so it doesn’t drain the camera battery. The new series 2 will support Nikon, Canon, Fuji and Sony and is $200. The older series 1 supports only Nikon and Canon and can be picked up used for less. BTW, if you do thorough search, you can find a host of complaints about Nikon’s Wi_Fi adapter and SW, but nothing but praise for CamRanger.

Yes I have seen some info on YouTube etc about Camranger. do you know if there are that many more bells and whistles for version 2 compared to version 1 for Nikon?

The version 2 is smaller, less expensive and adds Sony and Fuji support, but not sure if there is any difference in functionality.

I shoot a D600. I use Nikon's adaptor and their WMU app on my Android phone. I only use it as a remote viewfinder and shutter release when I have the camera on a tripod centerpole extension that raised the camera to ten feet high.
