I use a stand alone computer which sits on the sideboard in the dining room. The screen saver runs a few hundred or thousand of my favorite photos. Not only do I enjoy it while I eat, I notice other visitors stop and watch when they walk by. For special events, such as birthdays, I set the screen saver to show photos of the guest of honor. That is a big hit.

You can make your own if you want a step up from the usual. I have a Dell mini computer paired with a 27 inch 4G screen. The computer comes with Windows 10, so I have loaded around 15,000 photos from the last 50 years onto the computer and play them randomly using the screensaver program in the kitchen. Works great. Cost around $1100.

If, by digital frames, you mean a frame that has a database of photos associated with it that shows each photo for however long time it is set, it's a brilliant idea! It is especially very useful and helpful with older people. When my 101 year old mother was alive, the photos that everybody in the family had given to be included in the database, she was just able to remember happy times. It kept her company. The other use of it is that when I was visiting her there were photos on there that other people contributed that I didn't have. So I used my camera phone to take photos of the photos I wanted. The quality definitely was not great but I had the memory. I think digital frames are amazing!

I may have one someday if I can no longer operate my computer to pull up the memories. I have only seen two of these devices and I was delighted with them both and would sit and watch and wait for the next image to pop-up and show some memorable event in someone's life that made a great story about their family & friends. It's a great thing to have for visitors & guests in your home or place of business because it relays your pride of accomplishments to others who, likewise ,wish to convey at thought or a journey to a point worth sharing publicly.
It's a Good Thing !

I have 3-15" NIX digital frames. Two have run for a number of years 24/7. I have replaced the power (wall-wart) supply (~$6-12) on two of the frames (a nod to Mr. Burk) over the years. The 3rd frame is <three years old, is motion-activated and turns on instantly whenever anyone passes. I literally have thousands of pics on each digital frame, so I'm forever surprised to see vast examples of who, what, when, where, vacations, travel, documents, family history, accomplishments, or milestones whenever I pass by. I also have scans of old B&W pics of passed loved ones loaded on each frame.

These three digital frames replaced wooden framed pics that previously "littered" our walls. Changing/adding the thousands of pics in a digital frame is much easier than changing out the pics/mats in wooden frames. No, I'm not trying to convince you to change, I'm just telling you what works for us.

Non-photographers seem to love them. Many photographers too, as they can share their images with relatives without the need to print them out. I believe digital photo frames are not only here to stay, but will eventually become the primary method to display photos and art in our living and working spaces.

I love them. I put all past and recent Christmas family gatherings on mine. It is motion sensitive so it does draw attention when you enter the room. My grandchildren love the photos of them from birth to present. Mine is a Pix Star.

We have had three and each one has stopped working. I like them a lot but despite trying to buy recommended ones, I have not found one that will work for more than a few months.

I know what it is but I've never touched one. Hopefully I will never need THAT as a stimulus. I prefer actively looking on my PC or at actual prints. I'd also rather listen to music than stare at photos like a zombie.

There is another form of digital frame, I don't have one, digital streaming, a selection of photos are available for streaming, you sign up and pick what art work you would like , the photos change perodically based on what you pick out, FAA has it as part of their offerings
