All this beautiful bird photography has started to re-kindle the passion I had for carving birds 30+ years ago.
Long ago I carved full time, professionally if you will. I supported our young family for a couple years doing so. Being a starving artist is noble, for art sake, if your single but as we grew to a family of 6 our financial needs far outpaced my ability to earn, at carving.

The need for cash drove me into construction and eventually carving fell by the wayside.

Today I dusted off the tool chest and I am leaning back into wildfowl and bird carving art.

This eagle head has was started around 1985. It is about 50% finished with forming, then comes paint. It has sat unfinished all this time and I'm about to begin to finish it.

I have some pictures of my own to work from but IMO I never have enough reference material.

I am requesting anyone willing to help to please post images that help me find detail for a Bald Eagle Head. profile, face on, back of head, on an angle. All images will be helpful.

Naturally I can just search through UHH but I thought it might be more productive to ask. Because I only need head shots there is probably a wealth of images not posted already for one reason or another.

If you choose to contribute an image or two please remember to make it downloadable. Detail, that is what I'm after.

If you would prefer Ill provide an email for direct transmission or we could use drop box.

Thanks
Bill

Here are a couple you can use. Not for distribution, only to help you finish your carving. Good luck with the feather detail. 😃

Great looking head, WD and have several images, but probably not enough detail for your needs. I would suggest viewing some of Regis's eagle images on his "MY Topics" pages which were previously posted. Glad that you are carving again and please keep us posted! Corky

This is about as 'close' as the carving.

Truth be told, you had a hand in this.
Pulling out the woodcock to share with you was like striking a match.
I was thinking on doung a kingfisher, and will, but my wife suggested I first finish the.eagles head.
Thanks for the nudge

Btw.
I have been all over Regis's posts. Lots of help there too.
Also visited the.NEW
Great Bird Photography (?) Web site. More help there as well.

I would have loved this level of detail 40 years ago.
I used to borrow Study Skins from Princton University for detail information.

Onr day I borrowed an Emperior Penguin study skin. Ealked through town of Princeton down main st with a 4' tall stuffed penguin under my arm. Some funny looks.
