I made a phone call to an engineer friend, and asked him what he was doing.
He replied that he was working on: "The aqua thermal treatment of ceramics, glass and metals, under constrained environment."
I was very impressed.... and, to better understand, I asked him for clarification.
He told me that, in fact, "He was washing dishes in hot water, under the supervision of his wife!!!
Absolute comprehensive clarity is sometimes vital. An old chestnut from my coal-mining days: To create an eight-feet high passage through a narrow pinched segment of the coal seam, a track-laying crew had set charges in a rock intrusion overhead. The trigger was handed to the track-laying crew's only green-hat (new guy) with the instruction: 'Yell "FIRE!" three times, then shoot it.'
Cap-lamps fifty feet away were suddenly seen to make dotted lines in the murk as startled miners leapt into a cross-cut.
