This is the final shot, after many, moving the light around till I was happy. I used one strip light on the right and a white sheet of paper on the left to bounce light. The lights in the back are from our Christmas tree. Set St. Nick and dog on table about 3 ft in front of tree.

Very nicely done!!! I would have liked to see the top of the tree but it is still a nice photo. It would make a great Christmas card.

I love it, Jim! The clarity and details of your subjects are wonderful, and the background bokeh very festive. The tree's lights are attention-getting for their brightness and color saturation, but I don't find that to be a negative.

Thanks Dodie.
I thought about the top of the tree but there are distracting pictures behind that area.

The lights are white if they were mixed colors it would work out better. Not changing the lights.😏
Thanks for commenting Linda.👍

Sorry, I meant the colored lights on the tree (I just edited my comment to clarify).

My wife just put out Santa on a sledge. Ki was thinking of trying that same set up. I hope it comes out as well as yours did. Nicely done.

Very well composed and lit. The colors of the tree lights compliment Santa's "relaxing" wardrobe. Excellent sharpness from that open 50.

Thanks so much Dan. I used the wide open setting on my 50mm to get a strong bokeh background. I couldn't get both the St Nick's head and the Dogs head in focus with one shot, so I shot twice then stack and opened the appropriate focus areas.

Had a wonder going about dof. Some digital high jinx are still a bit of a mystery to me. Working on learning it ...

That is flat out the nicest Christmas card I think I've ever seen. Technically first rate and you just have to love that outfit. Wonderful.

WOW! Thank you so much Erich. I will share your comment with my wife. She previously suggested getting a few printed and send to family.
