I shot this 3 years ago and failed to have anything I thought worth while. I tried again a year ago, failed again. I did it again last night. With this one I'm interested in your Critique. I had a second version with added butterflies but thought it took away form the mystique. Interested in your opinion on the blank space.

Very cool photo. If the black space had a figure or silhouette of a child or young woman peering in you could call it Pandora’s Box.
But even just as is it’s really thought provoking.

Slightly mysterious; like the negative space.

Looks like the blank space is well received. Thanks so much for your opinions.

It would be nice if the blank space above the chest gave enough room to include the entirety of the light rays. They're such a part of the effect they've earned the right to not be truncated in any way .

Hope you didn't borrow the chest from Marsellus Wallace (sorry, Pulp Fiction reference).

Great shot Jim - I really like it, and the negative space works for me.

Good compositional practice is to leave space for the action to move into. So, some more space on the right of the magic from the chest is a good idea. However, I see it as too much space. Since visual weight is often perceived differently by different people, I have no "objective" suggestion.

Well done for its dramatic light, and for its composing--assuming you do not actually possess such a chest.

Too late to retrieve the upper light rays.
