New Smyrna Beach.
Today I took Lucky down to the New Smyrna Beach Dog Park, we had never been there and it was actually great, I had no idea what we had been missing. In the few moments that Lucky was not dragging me around I was able to collect a few images.
The only bird that I have never seen before is the Black Skimmer and I guess that I have never seen them because I almost never go to the beach in Florida, rivers and ocean via a boat yes, but it has been years since I have walked a beach and at that time I think I was more interested in bathing suits than I was birds..... My how time will change a person. The lower bill on the Skimmers beak is longer than the upper bill, the lower bill is used to skim along in the water scooping up small fish.
Nice! My bucket list includes capturing a skimmer skimming! (seven skimmers skimming)

Thanks, I have had the chance a few times while shooting eagles at a dump, but they were a bit too far away.
You should go to the beach more often.
Nice - especially the birds in flight. I would be delighted to have any like those on my wall!
Wonderful! My sister / BIL have retired to Daytona. Will need to add NSB to the list on the next visit to the area. The only day I was out was to a stretch called Ponce Preserve. No Skimmers there. jealous.

Actually you will enjoy NSB, beachside towards the inlet is full of small restaurants that offer outdoor dining, a very artsy type community the park at the end by the inlet has a 1.5 mile boardwalk through the sand dunes that get close to the beach. The beach itself seems to be more attractive than the beaches of Daytona, but maybe that was because my experience with Daytona's beaches have always been crowded with cars and people, yesterday the beaches were not very crowded maybe because of the cooler weather. Another place you may enjoy is at the south end of A1A (Hwy 44 beachside) in New Smyrna is the Canaveral National Seashore which offers some of the best beaches in the area as well as access to Indian Lagoon. You can see the Cape's launch structures from the south end of the National Park as you look across the lagoon.
If your sister and brother in law have dogs you have to enter through New Smyrna Dunes Park, dogs are not allowed on any part of Volusia Co beaches except for the two dog parks, on either side of the inlet, Port Orange and New Smyrna, the New Smyrna side is a hundred fold better because the beach is wonderful and you have the Dunes and nature trails right there. The other plus is I know that you are a photographer and in the early part of the day you will have the sun at your back if you are photographing birds flying and fishing in the inlet.

Great info! I had to help cook on the few days I was there, so I only had a morning and picked the closest I could find within my window. I came away with some great plovers, turnstones, and herons, at the water's edge, all still waiting for edits back home in Chicago on the larger machine & monitor. Thanks.
