I am guessing you do have an ISO you can raise in order to raise your shutter speed.

Not the complete solution Dennis.
Shutter is 1/2000s, ISO 6400...Bird flying toward me at 40mph. DOF is the bigger problem...5/8" total...9" bird.

Nice shot, fast flying head on BIFs are difficult, witness my hundreds of failures and zero successes. IMHO luck is the determining factor in getting these shots with skill a distant second.

You are almost there, but I do not know how you get around DoF. Which lens were you using?
