A friend of mine had a son who was living in Japan and missed twinkies as they weren't available. His mother couldn't afford to send them by air mail and she knew from contacting a shipping company that it could take up to a couple of months (1970's era) So she contacted Hostess to see if they would be moldy or rotten. The guy there told her that if WWIII occurred and someone came across twinkies hundreds of years later they still would be as good tasting as if they came right from the factory. Course that was before Hostess was sold the new company hasn't followed the recipe as well.
