Sidebar; My first post here and am really enjoying the site and especially the many fine photo's.

So, I've been using many different brand lenses thru adapters and lately i've been experimenting with my Nikon 70-210 F4-5.6. The lens is quite heavy and a handful on the light body especially when zooming, and I'd would like to replace it with a good lighter telephoto with a shorter range as I don't need the 210mm reach. It would be great not to have to use an adapter and get stabilization but I'll have to see where prices come in at. Weight and a good lens is important.

A great choice is the Sony 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens. It’s reasonably light and reasonably priced. It’s sharp with a bit of softness at the extreme corners, most likely at the widest aperture. So far I haven’t seen much to complain about. It’s become my every day lens. The kit 16-50 lens lives in the backpack.

I endorse the 18-135 Sony. Covers enough range to make it nice for ‘all around’ use.

Sony and Tamron both offer 18-200 native e-mount lenses for the A6X00 line up. With Clear image Zoom that gets to 400mm with high quality jpeg files (no raw). Can go even higher but file quality has to suffer.

Sony 18-135 and Sigma 30mm f1.4 are what I use most.

My a6000 came with a 16-50 kit lense and a 55-210 kit lens. Both were ok, but I had to keep switching lenses which resulted in dust on my sensor, no matter how much I tried to keep the sensor from being exposed, while switching lenses. So, I purchased a Sony 24-240 full frame lens, which produces very high quality pictures, though it is a bit heavy. With the zoom capability of the camera, and the crop factor, i have all the zoom I need.

I have an 'old' Nex 7 (waiting for Sony to upgrade sufficiently to warrant a newer version), which provides great pics. The two lenses that allow for maximum coverage with very good optics and relatively low weight: 16-70, f4 & 70-300, variable f's. Carry them on hikes and climbs; both lenses work very well.

I will second that. I have an A6000 as a back up (my other body is an A7 III). I got the 18-135mm lens for that, and I would agree with this assessment. I take this kit on trips when I need to travel light--particularly work trips when I need to take my laptop and I do not want to check a bag.

I use the Sony 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 with my A6000 when travelling. It's reasonably small and light and gives me the results I'm looking for.

Yeah, I like how the 18-135 covers most of focal lengths I use, so I don’t have to change lenses all the time. After owning several different cameras, I found that I rarely needed anything longer than this, so dropping big bucks on a high end long zoom wasn’t necessary. I don’t shoot birds or sports, so the 18-135 fits the bill nicely. If I want something longer, I have my RX100VII with it’s 24-200mm lens, plus clear image zoom that gives me up to 400mm. I think I’m set.

A picture is worth a thousand words, right? This is an example of the second generation Nikon 80-400 adapted to a Sony a6300.

After reading this thread I have ordered a Sony 18-135mm for my A6000.

My camera was purchased 4-2019. It’s latest upgrade is 3.20. There is now a 3.21?
Any comments on the upgrades vs the lens? Sony says the lens will operate with my 3.20.
3.21 is described as having improved auto focus.

Thanks

You won’t regret the lens.

If you’re looking for a 70-200, the Sony FE 70-200 f4 is light weight and a wonderful lens.
FWIW
