I shoot with a Nikon d 7000 using an 18-55 kit lens. I also use 50mm 1.4 and 105-300. So it's my birthday and I will have $2000 to spend on new lens. I love landscapes and portraits. What lens(es) will take me to the next level? I'm thinking Nikon 24-70.

The Nikon 24-70 would be my recommendation.
And it's full-frame so it will grow with you, when and if you go that way.
Amazingly sharp! A bit short for portraits with a full-frame body but great with the D7000.

Sorry but no lens will take you to the next level. Learning more about photography, methods and equipment will.

However, if your current lenses do not meet your needs, figure out what they do not do for you and what you really need and then buy accordingly.

Take lots of shots with the lenses you have now. Keep a notebook and mark down the kind of lens you need if your present lenses will not cut it. Then go over your list and see what kind of lens or lenses you need. Or just get Nikon 24-70 it will make you look like a pro and is a great lens. - Dave

That is a very tough question. I have 2 Nikon D90 bodies, Nikon 14 to 24, 24 to 70, 70 to 200 and a 105Macro lenses, all 2.8 and a Tamron 18 to 270 with stabilization. 95% of the time I grab the Nikon with the Tamron Lense. Not because of the quality of the lense obviously but because I don't know what I will run into in the field. A lot depends on your shooting requirements. Recently visited Hawaii and took everything with me and used them all. I am still tired from dragging everything around. Hope I'm not just confusing you.

Good shooting......
