I have been seeing a lot of advertisements for these Scot-e-vest. I like the security aspect but are they bulky and sloppy looking when pockets are full?

All those kinds of things look cool etc when empty and posed for ad pictures. You put stuff in those pockets they bulge etc.
But that is what they are made for, not looking cool and tactical.
I load my extra shirt and jacket pockets with stuff and the cargo pockets of pants. I buy them for use, not looks.

I looked up the Scott-e-vest site. Too expensive for me - I have a great winter jacket that I bought at Goodwill for less than $10, a men's jacket of heavy green twill with all sorts of zippered pockets, not fashionable at all, but holds everything except my camera securely, and it is more wind-proof than any other I have, and more durable. For warmer weather I have a light jacket that also has multiple zippered pockets, and a backpack if needed. Of course, for other occasions I have more fashionable jackets to wear, but I'm more of a Walmart or Kohl's shopper for those, not a fashion maven. I'd rather spend $$ on camera equipment!

For photographers the DOMKE photo jacket and NIKON VESTRAP are the shizzle ... but both are out of production.

I still have a 60's Army Field Jacket and a Jungle Fatigue Jacket in the closet. If people don't like how they look they can look in another direction.

Riiiight! I have two! Pockets big enough for almost anything! The most often used is a 25 year old fishing vest, but, I do have a HUMVEE vest in my closet for "dress occasions".

I have 3 different kinds. I am a believer in the pickpocket proof concept as there have been attempts but no successes. Mostly I use them not for photography but for carrying many different things like compressed wallet, sunglasses, regular glasses, cell phone, kindle etc. I can wear it onto planes and it is very convenient. Airlines don't look at it as another carry-on. One functions as a windbreaker with removable sleeves.

I also have a pair of pickpocket proof pants from clothing arts which I like allot. I wear the vest or the pants as conditions warrant.

I have a couple of vests from Travel Smith with lots of security pockets that I’ve used for decades - still look good. I also like their travel pants (double zippered left pocket) and shirts (double zippered right pocket).

In the summer, I have a Jean jacket I use. Pockets on the outside for little stuff, big pockets on the inside for lenses. Another reason I like my micro 4/3s system.

If it holds what you want to carry, is your appearance that important?

I bought a Scott e-vest some years ago, and sent it back for a refund. The material is stiff and not comfortable. Many of the pockets are useless tiny pockets - sized for things like earbuds and SD cards. It was way too expensive and just not worth the price. I got a better travel vest from TravelSmith. although that one is designed as a warm weather vest and is lightweight - not a great photo vest. So far, I have not found anything which combines the photographic vest -with lots of big exterior pockets - and a travel vest, with lots of secure interior pockets.

biggest problem is too many pockets. Could never keep track of where I put things.
