Morning I shoot all Nikon and was thinking of buying the Sony A6000 they have some great prices on this want to use if for family gatherings and carry in the car .. was wondering if anyone on here has one and how they like it I have d850 and d500 Nikon's shoot mostly wildlife.. need something not so big for the family photos..

I had one and liked it. Good image quality. It really needs a grip of some sort to improve the ergonomics-
The battery life is rather dismal so stock up. People complain about the menu system but I didn't find it hard to navigate. Pick up several extra rubber eye cups and spring for the larger, more comfortable ones. They don't want to stay attached. There have been several more recent updates- 6100, 6300, 6500 all with improvements.

It's fun to use vintage lenses with adapters with this camera if that is of interest. The focus peaking is excellent.

I have a Sony A6000. Its my transition from an Apple I phone 7. I find the operating menu challenging. It takes very good pictures. Can be used as a point and shoot style camera utilizing the Automatic settings. My real camera background is very limited but am fascinated with the learning curve Im in the middle of.

oh ya just want to use the Sony for family outings and have something in the car all the time that is not too expensive I have the Sony AX53 4k video camera and really like it with the zebra exposure control and I see the A6000 has the same thanks for the reply

I switched to the A6000 about a year ago. The auto focus is just fantastic, and it's not even the best Sony has now in the A6X00) lineup.

But the A6000 is the best selling mirrorless ILC ever, and since Sony has released so many upgrades (which have bells and whistles I don't really need) it is an outstanding value in today's market.

But I do find that using older glass with an adapter results in a noticeable degradation in the auto focus performance.

Good morning, Garrickw. I think the A6000 is a wonderful choice as a second camera or backup. But don’t think of it as a glorified point and shoot camera that just good for those ubiquitous “family photos.” Family deserves a good camera that delivers high quality images, and the A6000 delivers on that account. In fact, should you get the A6000, you may find yourself using it more than you anticipated. Normally it comes with the kit lenses, the 16-50 and 18-210 zooms, however, if family photos are what you are mostly interested in, Sony makes a very good, albeit expensive 18-105 lens that is perfect for that.

That said, one poster stated recommended sticking with Nikon, since you have an extensive Nikon collection, and going with the new Z50. Makes a lot of sense, as you can use your current lenses with the Z adapter. It’s more expensive than the A6000, but keeps you from having to invest in a new brand of lenses, and you stay with the Nikon family. The Z50 is very new, and as such isn’t really proven yet, but I haven’t heard of any particular negatives about it. Just a thought. Otherwise, the A6000 is a very good choice, and not very expensive.

The Sony A6000 is one of the biggest selling interchangeable lens cameras ever produced and is THE largest selling mirrorless. It was introduced in 2014 and even though Sony has brought out several variants and upgrades (A6100; A6300; A6400; A6500; and A6600) since then, it is still producing the A6000.
I have a FF A7Riii and a 1" sensor compact RX100iii but the A6000 is still my favorite in terms of image quality vs size/weight. It is my travel camera. It will fit comfortably in a jacket pocket with the kit 16-50 mm lens.

I too shoot Nikon, have a D750 that replaced a D7000. This past spring I bought the A6000 to keep in the truck. Brought it on vacation twice, it is much easier to travel with than all my Nikon gear. Battery life is sparse but the usb charging ability allows to recharge while driving from point a to b. Image quality is pretty good, menu system took a little adjustment but all in all I am pleasantly satisfied with this Sony.

I like my a6000, but it is small with small controls. I can't fault the results, but I'm an old fashioned guy who likes a big DSLR. If you want a small mirrorless at a good price, the a6000 is fine. I paid about $550 for mine with the standard lens (16-55mm?)

It's the finest little camera I've owned... and has nearly taken the place of my Canon 7D. The a6000 is half the size and weighs quite a bit less. It's easy to use and takes great photos if you do your job. The best feature is that it's small and handy. The Sony carrying case is no hell... but the camera is great. It's the sort of camera you can carry with you most of the time and you don't have to lug it around.

I too own the A6000. Bought it after a good friend lent me his for 3 months! I got to know it quite well. I have 4 lenses plus the kit. I ride a road bike and a little mtn biking as well. I find that the camera stays in my jersey pocket any time I'm in new territory.
Also gets used a lot with off camera flash when family is around.
I also have shot and sold studio portrait images with this.
It is a great camera but I must confess, my new iPhone, again because it is almost always with me is getting used more and more.

My Huawei P30 Pro is also capable of OK pictures... I still like my little Sony... My grand daughter works on a cruise ship and uses her P30 Pro just like a camera and takes great shots with it. She has photos from nearly the 4 corners...
