The first one I got in 1939 was a wind-up, on a circular track; not electric.
Thanks for the memories!
I found a Lionel layout under the Christmas tree when I was just six months old. The guys at the firehouse would kid my Dad asking him who he really bought those trains for ! Lol
Looking back, those Christmas mornings were really special. Every year a new accessory or piece of rolling stock would appear under the tree.
Trains still run under our Christmas tree every year and memories of those Christmas mornings in the 1950’s and 60’s are still there.
I lost both my parents a few years ago, but I would like to say thanks to both of them. Those Christmas mornings were made extra special because along with the trains, it was the whole Family gathered around the Christmas tree, the greatest gift of all.🚂🎄
Thanks for the wonderful nostalgic link.

I was 3 months old, 1942, still have that train
I loved my Lionels. Right after Thanksgiving dinner, the table would be converted into a trainscape.
Great memories of Dad helping me write a letter to Santa in 1953 when I was 4 asking for a Lionel train that smoked and whistled. I must have been good that year because guess what was under the tree on Christmas morning. Thanks for the link to this wonderful video and what it was like to be a kid a long time ago.
I don't remember when I got my first Lionel train car but it must have been when I was 5 or 6 back in the mid-40's. I recall my dad and I hanging a 4x8 piece of plywood on a hinge on my bedroom wall that we screwed the tracks to so I wouldn't have to keep setting them up. I would endlessly lower and raise this layout to put my train on and run for hours at a time. Fabulous memories. The train is still in my possession. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!!
Sorry but, I still have my American Flyer Trains and still working on a layout. Many of my stuff is over 55 years old and still working. I try to fix was isn't.
Everyone have a save and blessed Holiday Season.

I Was five when I got mine. My Dad and three uncles decided that I was too young so they would "help"me. It took three more years before I could push my way in.
I'm 86 now and they still work!
Great video. Thank you for the memories.

I received my Lionel train set in 1939 as a Hanukkah gift. I was 5 years old going on 6. I still have that train set, a little marked up and worn, but, would you believe, still works. Sits on display in my "Man Cave."

Me, too. Got mine in the late 1950s as a joint present with my younger brother. The trouble with Lionel was the three rail track. American Flyer was also the next smaller gauge, so it took a little less room, too.
