You can't go wrong on any of the Canon printers; I had an Epson for a long time, but it was a lot of work. When it went kaput, I went with canon, and am still using them. Either the inkjet models, or for `Pro work, use one of the higher end models.

I currently use an Epson Eco Tank printer. I does fine for most of my prints 8x10 and smaller. I send out for "real" prints and larger prints. I would highly recommend the Epson Eco Tank printers because of the inks last for ever. Like wise the Canon Mega Tank printers. No their colors are not up to museum quality but for everyday use, either one will save you a ton of money on inks. BTW, Best Buy use to offer a rebate for tradeing in your dead printer. Happy Printing

I am also using the Eco Tank for most things and sending out for others.

Need to pick Hoggers' brains. My old Epson colour printer has just died, it only lasted 20 years. Now need a new colour printer for photographs, possible a reasonably priced Canon.

Grateful thanks for any recommendations and/or of experience of using Canon printers.

We have the Epson ET4550 (Tank model) $264.36 on Amazon. I refilled the black tank after 2K+ printed pages. I also have to clean/align the heads every thousand or so pages which is easy because it is menu-driven. The Epson T774120-S EcoTank Pigment Black Ink Bottle. $19.49 on Amazon. It will MORE than fill the Black tank. The four-bottle color refills are $49.99 for the entire set. I have yet to use enough color to barely register on the tank level marking. I have very little experience with photos, Costco is much better/cheaper, but the printed pages with colors are very nice. If you print a lot as we do, just do the math. Our ET4550 networked (printer/copier/scanner/fax/auto-feed/auto two-sided printing) does a very good job for every function and we show it no mercy, however, If you are looking for perfection, buy a La$er printer that uses really expen$ive carts. Best wishes on whatever suits you.

The certain truth about inkjet printers. They are typically sold cheap and get you with the inks. The more inks the greater the user cost.
Then there are the different types of inks, Dye and Pigment.
"Pigment inks are not absorbed by the paper but sit on top as small encapsulated particles while dye based inks are absorbed into the paper’s fibers. This basic difference creates differences in areas such as ink stability, color intensity and contrast. The choice of ink type depends on what result you expect and which characteristics you favor"

"Pigment based inks are generally stronger in the following areas compared to dye based ones:

water fast on most paper media (dye based inks start to run when wetted if not printed on specially coated paper)
fast drying (up to 100 times faster compared to dye based inks)
non fading colors
long life cycle
low bleeding in the edges of the printed color

Dye based inks are generally stronger in the following areas compared to pigment based ones:

high brilliance and contrast
wide color gamut (i.e. the range of colors that can be produced)
less expensive

A note on above comparison: Intensive research and development is continuously done in printer inks which mean that both dye and pigment inks are steadily becoming better in their weak areas."

I use a Canon IP8720, it has 6 inks
C, M, Y, K, Grey, Photo Black. Dye inks with Pigment Black.

Prints to 13x19 and looks great.

I don’t print anymore my pics. For a regular print I go in the store or do it online. Eason, canon, HP I used them in the past. Printer life is about 2years ( I have Cats and Dog- more dusk and hairs) ink and paper is a lot of money. After some friends touched my pics with dirty wet hands-now the stock together I changed to foto books. The last foto book I literally got ask where I got the pics from.....sure I have a $60hp printer right now....just saying

I’ve used a Canon Pro 10 for several years. My only gripe is that the ink cartridges are too small. I finally decided to just buy a lot of them and replenish along the way. It is expensive, but I don’t see a better way to go.

Same thing happened to my Epson1430. Replaced with the Canon Pro100. Great printer but panoramas are limited to 13 x 26+. I could get 13 X 38 with the Epson, why Canon put that limit on I'll never know.

MX-922 Canon all in one. Works for me and there is one problem with the unit. When making/receiving calls the line is disconnected by the fax part of this unit. Happens once in a while and Canon has no idea how to give it a fix. Check with Canon and see if they have a patch for this unit.

I use a Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer. Has 8 ink tanks, including a black, grey and light grey for incredible b&w photos. You can print photos up to 13 X 19 inches. I use only Canon ink and Canon or Red River photo paper. Overall, it is an amazing printer. You can often find deals on it.

One last item regarding inks:

"If you will be doing a lot of black and white printing pigment ink is superior. If you will be printing images where long term life is important pigment ink is superior. Pigment ink is much more likely to clog the print head, so frequent printing is important".

Initially used Epson - brief period with HP than moved to Canon and have been pleased with Canon performance.

I have the Canon All-in-One MG6 250 A4 printer and the ix6550 A3 and both give sterling performance.

Use compatible inks and again no problems.
