EaseUS recovery does work. Unfortunately I know that first hand. About $60.00 though for a month. Recuva is free but it only pulled 18 pics of my damaged 684. I use dual slots and swap cards at the end of each shoot. I thought they had downloaded them to their hard drive but hadn't and they wrote over their cards thinking I have them. I will be able with EaseUS to pull back everything but it is a time consuming process. If you aren't tech saavy check with a computer repair shop and decide if the photo is worth the price.

There are software programs on the internet which will recover lost data. I have used them before but do not know if they would work with media that either is not or needs to be formatted.
If launchpad didn't work, maybe you didn't download the mac version. If you're on a mac try disk warrior.

Try a COMPLETE shutdown and reboot of your system, first.
Agree. Clear the caches. Browser and otherwise. I had this happen when Windows did an update behind the scenes as I was uploading photos.
I also use CC Cleaner to keep the PC running clean and all the bogus bits, cookies and crumbs clean. Some people will chortle on CC Cleaner but I have not have an issue with that software as long as it is kept current.

I had already checked it and it isn't locked.
I know that this is not what you're asking but here goes - use cards as recording media ONLY. Never do anything on a card's files other than copying them to your PC. I suspect that your editing is to blame (Duh!) hence the need to do nothing on the card other than recording images. Always format the card(s) in camera before a shoot; do all post-processing on the PC, tablet, etc.

I download all the images into LR before I start since LR is the best place to cull out the stuff I don’t want to work on.

I have used it successfully several times. Definitely worth every penny that it costs.
Another possibility is that your PP software has been writing your updates to the files the original disk. If so, you may be able to delete the updates from the card and regain access to the remaining files. It is a good idea to always download the photos before processing them.
