Natchez Trace Parkway

It's on my bucket list and I will have the opportunity to drive it next week. I can find little information on line about the route or what to expect this time of the year.
Anyone living in the area that can provide more information?

Keep in mind that you will never have time to shoot every picture you want to. There is a "Kodak moment" every fifty feet along that 450 mile Parkway. Have a plan.

When I worked in Nashville for a year my lady friend and I would ride 10miles of the Trace to Franklin and have lunch... walk around then ride back to her place. The area was beautiful and cars were warned that it was a bike route.
Do fill your bucket with photos.. but not the bones of civil war dead which surly are thick in that area.

The double arched bridge is at the end of the Natchez Pky in Franklin,Tn. It's an interesting bridge and makes a good photo stop. FYI, I believe there have been some temporary closures on parts of the Pkwy recently. Not sure if that's resolved yet. I drove it a few yrs ago and found that the 'good stuff' is at the south end. Of course we drove it north to south. Pretty much 400 miles of BORING and 50 miles of oh WOW! YMMV, of course. Have a great trip.

We drove this last September, north to south and I agree with other comments here that the best part of the drive is in Mississippi. There are numerous photo opportunities along the way and plenty of pullouts. Cypress Swamp was a particular favorite and there are some waterfalls in Hohenwald, Tenn that require a small hike.

There is a book available on the Parkway. Title:Bicycling the Natchez Trace. Author: Glen Wanner. Publisher: Pennywell Press. I am both an avid bicyclist and photographer. The book meets my needs for both. It is largely a very good guide and would give you the type of information you will need and want. I will be biking it come Spring. I almost worked it in this Fall; just not quite able to do it. Jury duty came a’calling, you know.
I was able to get this book very quickly, you might still have time to order and receive it.

The most expensive attraction around Hohenwald is the Elephant Sanctuary for old, retired elephants. A picture opportunity only costs $2,500 for 4 hours scheduled at their convenience. This information is a couple of years old and the cost probably has increased.

My wife and I drove it from Louisiana to Nashville about 12 years ago. It took us two days. It could have taken two weeks if I had been allowed to stop everytime I wanted to stop. (I am the photographer.)
We really enjoyed the sections in and around Nashville.
Remember the speed limit is not that fast and all services are off the Parkway--both good things IMO.

All the times that I have passed through Nashville over the past 40 years and never knew it was there. When Spring arrives I will have to check it out.......

I grew up in Jackson MS and our family was from Kosciusko so we used to ride the trace several times per month. That stretch is not particularly wonderful, but there is a peaceful shady beauty. This is the tail end of the - IMO - best weather in the South so your timing is good. Hope you enjoy it.
From Jackson to Natchez is a much more beautiful drive.
