Well, I have a know this waitress for the last four years when she started working at a restaurant. She was seventeen. She still works there.

Straight A student she goes to premed and hit a wall. Not a $$$ wall but one that left her befuddled and despondent, questioning her ability.

She had an 'F' in organic chemistry. All the other classes she still had 'As' even in the other organic chemistry but this class was a serious step up and did not relate to what she had learned before.

Enters me and a friend. We learned about her difficulty and tried to raise her moral. At the end of our conversation (we were leaving the restaurant) I told her:

"Tell you what, you get a B in your next test and I give fifty bucks." That was a few weeks ago.

'I went to that restaurant today with my wife. I asked about her test and... I paid her 50 bucks. My wife just shook her head.

No, I do not think donation pushed her more than anything else. She pushed herself as she usually does. I just rewarded her effort and her success.

That was a very nice thing to do and I am sure she really appreciated it.

When I taught chemistry (many, many years ago) I had two young women come to my office and say "We will do anything to get at least a B in chemistry". I told them to study for each quiz I gave the class and come tome with any questions or troubles they had in chemistry. Both women received an A for both semesters. No there was no hankky-panky involved since the final exams were departmental and graded by others.

Nicely done! Organic Chem. has been the bane of many a pre-med.

First year Organic can be quite a shock to any science major. It's not really much science and a lot of memorization. I barely got out with a "C".

You are a nice person to help her out like that. Hopefully she went on to graduate Med School.

Where were you when I dropped out of organic chemistry, 48 years ago?
I hated trying to memorize carbon molecules, put me right to sleep!
