Jerry ,
late 2007 Imac 24" with 4 gig ram . 320 external hd for back up of the system . 500 gig hd for my own back up of songs, video, photos etc . 1 T terabyte HD for all my work I do for the Senior Center . All external Hard Drives are seagate and still , this Imac works great . I use IPhoto ( love it ) , Aperture / Photoshop Elements 8 on the Apple side . Have Windows 7 on the bootcamp side that I use Paint Shop Pro x4 with . If this machine died on me I'd be looking at the 27' Imac with lots of ram . The size of this screen , clarity , just spoils a person .

i have both the mac book pro 15 inch for almost everything ...i have an older 27 inch imac desktop but hardly use it anymore because im always on the go..plus it needs an update to lion that i have been stalling on getting..the newer macbook pros are getting thinner and thinner ..do not have the capability of inserting discs..now you need to buy an external disc player..apple claims that almost everything is downloaded now but i still like to play my dvds occasionally..im just glad that i got the last model with the disc opening..

I know we have a lot of Mac users on here, so I have a question for you. Do you use a laptop or desktop when working at home?

I have an idea in the back of my mind to get a 13" Macbook, and I'll keep asking questions till I don't have an excuse not to get one. :D

I have the 24 inch iMac and love it but just bought the 15 inch macbook pro retina 2.6ghz 512 8gb ram which i use in the lounge when wife and baby are sleeping. I love this machine and have aperture and photoshop CS6 extended on it so I can work on my photos to my hearts content. A bit to get used to though with the smaller screen if I were you id get the 15 over the 13 inch

I am thinking the same Jerry. I now us a PC. I am thinking the Mac Book with retina display but also with an external monitor. My questions come from issues ( if there are any) of transferring files from PC to Apple. Is that an issue.

P.S. how are the "P" size filters working for you

I have a 15" macbook pro. I finally "caved in" and got it after my last pc died. This was more than three years ago and I have no regrets. The bundled software is amazing. iPhoto is good. I upgraded to Aperture which I'm guessing is similar to Photo Shop in all the bells and whistles. The one caveat is their is a learning curve as with anything new. There are mac forums online that can be helpful. Apple has tons of good tutorials on their site, and if you live near an Apple Store I would recommend that you pay the $99 for the One to One training. Get the macbook. You will not regret it.

Jerry, at home I use an IMAC with a 22" screen. The rendition of your images are better than on my 15" Macbook Pro laptop. That doesn't mean my 15" is poor, it just means that the 22" does a better job in my opinion. I use my laptop when I travel and as a second quick look at images if needed, before I put them in Aperture on my IMAC. My IMAC is in my office 2nd floor, were as my laptop is on the ground floor, primarily for my wife to use. I have a good photography friend who uses a 13" Macbook and when I was trying to decide what laptop to get, suggested that the 13" is too small for her and doesn't give as true a rendition as she would like. Principle reason for me to step up to the 15" Macbook Pro. I like it very much, but all my main work is done on the IMAC.

I have a MacBook Pro, purchased at a discounted price at one of Apple's transitions to a newer model (processor speed bump) about a year ago. It is my only computer, desktop units not being needed. I do have an external flatscreen 24" monitor for times when I need dual screen work or want the larger image for a particular task.

The MBP is 15", necessary for screen space for PS work panes. The screen resolution and color is very good. I had RAM added to bring it up to 8GB. The drive is only 500 GB, but have external drives for long term file storage and back up.

Being portable, I take it with me on vacations, and can work on photos whenever - wherever.

My wife and I each have a 24" iMac at home and are using them constantly and daily. Love them. I bought a 13" macbook about three years ago and have hardly used it at all, so it has depreciated just sitting on the shelf. Just found we didn't need it as stay-at-home retired folks. Will probably sell it. BUT, I agree, once you go mac you'll never go back.

In response to your Mac question , I use a 24" iMac at home (and wish I had a larger screen) and then when I am on the road I use a 13" MacBook air - and love both of them. Since I do a lot of Photoshop work my iMac it is plugged into a secondary screen so I am working two screens at the same time - one for the image and one for all of the palettes. The iMac is also plugged into a Drobo external hard drive. Hope this helps.

I have an older iMAC 24" desktop and a 17" Mac book pro. I love them both and use them both for editing. I save the original and edited photos that I use to enter competitions with my camera club I an external drive on my Mac book pro. I am trying to refrain from updating to the new retina display.

I use a Mac Mini server with 8 gigs of RAM and two external (2 TB) hard drives. I hook up to my 56" LCD flat screen via HDMI. I use a wireless Apple Keyboard and a Wacom pad on a long USB extension. This great for tired eyes and old age.

Jerry,
In answer to your question Mac vs. PC ?....I've been working on Mac's for 15+ years. I currently have a factory refurbished 13" Mac Book Pro for traveling and use it out doors to connect my camera to get instant camera images on screen (HDR on the spot) via a USB cable. At home I'm connected to a 28" ACER-HD screen, which are very inexpensive and a good value for the money. If you want to get into the real world of computing, have fun, user friendly, better build quality,
archaic less work flow, MAC's the only game in town.

I have 2 laptops and a desktop Mac. I also have a desktop PC. The PC rarely gets turned on, though the Mac's are in use daily. All three Mac's are used for photography in different ways. Get a new Mac Book Pro, and never look back !!
