It looks like manufacturers are beginning to add features through firmware update that in the past would require a model update. Sony is no exception.

From the looks if it materialize ,we can just speculate, the next upgrade for R10 the would be more battery life like the one in A7III, extended if not (unlimited )video shooting time..

I have unsuccessfully tried to retire and to devote more time to photography. (A client came up with a series of very high value inventions and I could not walk away from this project). As soon as I can devote time to photography, I will buy the M4 if the M5 is not available.
