I am considering either the Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC or the Sigma 17-50 2.8OS for my Nikon D7000. Most reviews I have read seem to lean towards the Sigma. Any advice?
Have been using Sigma lenses almost exclusively for years without incident. Am looking at the 17-50 with OS, since my wide angle zooms don't have OS.

If you've read the reviews, I'd say the decision is up to you. Every lens has pros and cons, not the least of which is the price. Will spending more get you better pictures? Do the pros of one lens overcome the cons of another? In the end, I bet it would make absolutely no difference at all in the images you produce.

Thank you to all for the advice.
I have been using Sigma lens for the past three years with my Sony DSLR a700 and Sony DSLR a77 and I am very satisfied with the results. I also have a number of Sony lens costing far more than the Sigma lens and I can not see any difference in quality between the two manufactures
I just got the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 and liking it. Sigma is noted for quality control issues, so wherever you buy, make sure you can test and return if needed.
I have Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR LD Aspherical, and am very happy with it, I think it's picture quality is as good as my canon 50mm 1.8...
The on the VC series is not glowing, slower and softer focus, in reality do yo need image stabilisation on a 17-50mm anyway... And saves a few bucks as well...
I would go with the better review. But I think you have already made up your mind.
I have a canon 7d and I use sigma I just got the 18-250 and love it I have the 120-400 and I use it for birds in motion and sports.

So you're saying your 120-240mm is for the birds? :D

I have heard some discussions about Sigma quality control being substandard and a higher rate of their lenses being returned than Nikon, Canon or even Tamron. Is anyone familiar with this alledged issue?
For me, it is not "alledged" - it is fact !
If my memory serves me correctly Sigma makes both lens.

i have a sigma 70-200mm2.8 OS that i bought for my 7d and i love it. and i had the canon L version (was stolen from my van) before. the image quality is as good and better in some situations than the canon L version.
i also bought the sigma 70-200mm 2.8 OS nikon version for my new D800 nikons.
i cannot speak for other sigma lens models, but these are great and i would highly recommend them.
