Shiprock is so lovely, and photographing it at night had to have been a real hoot. Did you need a permit to do so? If so, where did you get it?

Did not have to have a permit. We are friends with some Navajos that live near where we took the photos.

Ah. That explains a lot. We actually tried to get to somewhere that we could actually spend some time shooting this mountain and could not. It's so in the middle of nowhere.

There are lots of primitive roads that will get you about anywhere you want out there and I don't think you would be challenged if you did not go through a marked gate or other place that is posted. Most places out there are not posted. We have shot all over the Reservation including other angles of Shiprock with no problems.
Leave no trash, do not drive off of the roads and be respectful and I doubt you would have any issues.
