Can anyone share what are the best online tutorials and/or books for these to PP products. I have both and rather overwhelmed about where to begin. Cost is as not a big a factor as really good instruction for a beginner. Thank you!!

Go to youtube.com and type in the software tutorials you would like to see. You will likely be faced with several choices. A tip, however, after viewing one, the selections may change...just click the return arrow upper left (in Windows PC) to get back the original list. You may otherwise find other tempting selections distracting from your original quest.

Here are some resources for Lightroom. I have no first-hand experience with these resources, but they are usually the ones I see recommended in other forums.

Here are some online resources for PSE10.

http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-photoshop-elements-10/
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshopelements/using/index.html
http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/tag/elements-10/
http://www.lynda.com/Photoshop-Elements-tutorials/Photoshop-Elements-Essential-Training/92203-2.html

And here are some books.

http://www.amazon.com/Photoshop-Elements-10-Missing-Manual/dp/1449398502/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1347771549&sr=1-1&keywords=photoshop+elements+10+the+missing+manual
http://www.amazon.com/Photoshop-Elements-Digital-Photographers-Voices/dp/032180824X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1347771644&sr=1-1&keywords=photoshop+elements+10+book+for+digital+photographers
http://www.amazon.com/How-Cheat-Photoshop-Elements-Imagination/dp/0240820479/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1347771678&sr=1-1&keywords=how+to+cheat+in+photoshop+elements+10

And don't forget an invaluable resource available from within PSE10, which is usually overlooked -- the mini-tutorials. You can click on those text alerts which zip in and out in the lower right corner of the screen in both the Editor and the Organizer. This will open up the Inspiration Browser, a mini-program which enables you to watch these tutorials. You can also bring up the Inspiration Browser by going to Help>Elements Inspiration Browser.

I have found pdf's of LR4 Classroom in a book and Elements 10 Classroom in a Book at these addresses for free
http://www.wowebook.be/book/adobe-photoshop-lightroom-4-classroom-in-a-book/
http://www.wowebook.be/book/adobe-photoshop-elements-10-classroom-in-a-book/
There is a URL on the last page to download the Lesson files from.
Plus lots of other titles as well. the thing with pdf's or ebooks is that you need a second monitor so you can follow the lessons on one screen and have Lightroom or Elements running on the other screen. Works for me.

Good morning! I would recommend this book: Lightroom 4 for Photographers. A description is at http://www.amazon.com/Photoshop-Lightroom-Digital-Photographers-Voices/dp/0321819586 . I have used Lightroom since the original beta test, and I generally get the latest version of both the software and the book when it comes out. Scott Kelby can be kind of cheesy, in his writing, but he is comprehensive and covers a lot of material in a step-by-step way so that you learn as you go.
I love Lightroom and, once you use it, there are so many capabilities under one program. I also use Photoshop, but not as much as I used to, with the new tools in Lightroom.

Also I would recommend these blogs:
Julieanne Kost http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/lightroom-training-videos
and Matt Kloskowski's at http://lightroomkillertips.com/

I hope you enjoy the programs...

Forrest

Not to overwhelm you but as new PSE10 user with no experience of previous versions I have found Teach yourself visually Photoshop Elements 10 by Mike Wooldridge and Brianna Stuart to be invaluable.

As a pragmatic learner, I can have the book beside me and the clear illustrations point to the buttons that I should be using for each task.

As an impatient learner who tends to skip the basics, the book is sophisticated enough to help me with more complex tasks involving for example, layers.

Just 'collaged' for the first time

I wasted a lot of time wandering around randomly finding books, articles and YouTubes. When I found some of the best free videos at Adobe were from lynda.com, I signed up for the full course for Premier Elements. I'm now half way through lynda.com's Photoshop Elements course. Both are excellent.

Adobe also has a some free videos from video2brain. Because I was traveling beyond an internet connection, I bought their courses for Premier and Photoshop Elements on DVDs. Both are excellent as well.

I'm leaving on another trip with a new camera and I want to come back with some understanding of Lightroom. I bought the video2brain DVD.

I have since learned that lynda.com offers you the choice of a DVD or online, but I have not done that yet. video2brain courses are conveniently available from Amazon.

We all learn differently, but I know I learn software far more efficiently by watching it work. Reading a book of instructions can be frustrating. A simple example is when the book tells you to select a feature and you can't find the button. In the video, you see the mouse move to the button. An organized video training course that starts at the beginning, and marches through to the end, provides me with a solid understanding of both what the software can do as well as a working knowledge of the parts I want to use frequently.
