I’m unhappy with the last travel tripod I bought and have begun looking for “The Right One”. So far the best selection in weight, load and size specs seems to be the Sirui T-1204SK T-S Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod. B&H is running a $65 discount on them till the end of the month.
But I am open to suggestions for something comparable to the Sirui. My restrictions are it cannot have a folded length of more than 20”, it must be very stable and hopefully lightweight. So it should probably be made of carbon fiber. I have more than enough heads, ball, pan and fluid head for video. So I’m just looking for the tripod itself.
I have a few other travel pods but have found them to not be as stable as I want in adverse wind conditions. So at this point the cost is secondary to the quality. My landscape shots look much better when the camera isn’t vibrating.
Thank you in advance for your input
Pete

Edit. Just in case you wondering, the equipment weigh is 8-10lbs.

I have a full size Sirui tripod, so I'm aware it is a quality maker, but for a travel tripod I went with a Vanguard VEO 2Go model. With head, it folds to about 12", well made, stable and light.

Look at the Manfrotto Befree MKBFRTC4-BHUS Carbon fiber travel tripod.

I have never liked Manfrotto ball heads, so I replaced mine with a 3-Legged Thing pano head.

I have never been disappointed with any Sirui products I have purchased.

I'm out of date. the peak design travel tripod is 350 for alum. and 600 for carbon fiber. and now they say that March of 2020 is the projected delivery date for new orders.

As each trio of legs get narrower from top to bottom, I keep the lowest trio collapsed. When the center post needs to be more than a third extended, I readjust tbe lower trio. I have put scratch marks on the legs for quick adjustability (1/4, 1/2, 3/4 points).

I went to look at a few tripods today at Samy’s Camera to get an idea of the leg thickness on each of the three that they offered in store. The Benro and Sirui models both have bottom legs about 5/8 thick. The Sirui has markings on the legs for quick adjustments. The Manfrotto has ‘ok’ stability but the lowest leg sections are thinner than the others. Now I need to go take a gander at the Feisol. Problem is no one carries them in stock around here.

The diameter of the tube is less important than the thickness of the wall of the tube. How many layers of carbon fiber is, therefore, more important than the thickness of the tube.

I have a Manfrotto Be Free that is very compact with the ball head. I'm happy with that. I also have a Manfrotto Imagine More with a 3 way head. It's a good tripod, but the head is bulky. If I were traveling and wanted compact more that anything else, I'd take the Be Free.

I bought the Sirui I love it. The model I bought is the only tripod I know of that advertises waterproof legs.

I love my Sirui tripod. Light strong waterproof carbon fiber and very reasonably priced

Possibly, but the total mass of an object determines how moveable it is. I believe there’s more mass in a larger diameter tube of the same or similar wall thickness.
Also, in doing a hands on check of the different tripods, I was able to see the increase in stability with the larger diameter tubes. They are a few ounces heavier but much more stable.

The Feisol is certainly worth an effort to look at. I have a CT-3342, which is the 3 section version of the CT-3442 recommended earlier. It's so easy to carry and set up, I actually enjoy using it. On a flat setup my viewfinder is at eye height, with no center section. The lower legs are slightly over 3/4" diameter on the 3 section version, but you'd need 4 sections to meet your folded length restriction.

Your folded parameter of 20 inches is very restrictive ! - So in order to get any decent height you need 5 sections !

Tube size = 36/32/28/25/22 compare these to the Feisol. .....5/8 in. is only 16mm ! ......the thing I do not like about this Leofoto is no center post !

Peak Design just announced a new travel tripod. Small and sturdy, you may want to take a look.

I saw it at the PhotoPlus NY show last month. I was pretty impressed by it. If I was looking for a tripod that would be at the top or close to the top of my list.
