I'm just wondering if this one touches folks.

Yes; even though this is a group, I see a sense of isolation, loneliness...? They are gazing but not interacting.
I wonder if cropping along the bottom would make it a stronger image....

I tried,, including the left sometimes. Didn't move me. How about you give it a try?
Slight crop on the bottom and right to focus on the sadness and isolation?

Yes, that does work. I was afraid it might take away some of the space that adds "aloneness" to it, but the "aloneness" remains. Good call.

I do not think any of the suggested crops add anything, the empty seats add to the loneliness.

To me, it is more of a challenge from the teacher(?) and being boxed in by a person known. Akin to the student who was not paying attention and being caught on it.
I like your comments, all. Food for thought. Some confirm what my intent, some have given advice to improve intent, and some give a whole new insight. Perfect! Thank you.
Yes, Bob. It strikes me as utter boredom.

I get the impression she wants to be any place but in that classroom. Almost like the courts mandated her being there for anger management or driving violations, etc

Bob, I think I agree with MichaelEBM's cropping. For me, it actually emphasizes the "aloneness" of the people.

I see that, and it does make for a good photo. Others, and my original crop, went for the space that separates us. I don't know if one is "better" than the other. Each has a slightly different "feel."
To me, it looks people at a lecture or or some sort of meeting who feel terribly bored and rather be elsewhere.
So, yes - this image does touch me. Because of similar personal experiences in my life, I can relate to it.
