Health and safety warning . .
Every time I leave a public restroom the thought of the dirty door handle troubles me. There were some excellent thought and practices mentioned in this post.
Gracias.
Had to laugh at my sister. We visited the restroom with my granddaughter. My sister ensured my granddaughter washed her hands, used a towel to turn off the faucet and a towel to open the door. Than let her put her hands all over the elevator buttons.

On the other hands there is the Hygiene Hypothesis.
This theory holds that one of the problems in propagating illness is too much sanitation.
The human body has an immune system. Like all the other systems in the body, exercise is important. If you never encounter any germs, your body will lose the ability to deal with them.
I have never been particularly careful about washing my hands. As a farmer, my hands have been in contact with all sorts of things. I rarely have a problem with that. I don't get flu shots, and I haven't had the flu in decades.
OTOH, my wife is in the health care industry and she is a nut about vinyl gloves, hand washing, alcohol wipes on the ipad she uses for work, etc. She gets ill much more frequently than I do.
I tell her it's my exercise of my immune system that makes the difference. She tells me it's my genes. I suspect there is some merit in both sides of the argument, but the best genes in the world won't help if you don't exercise.
PS: I suspect that if you are a sanitation nut and past the age of 30-40, it's too late. The damage has been done already. Wash your hands. You have to start as a kid and keep going all your life.

I agree with your friend, although if they use "Air-blow" dryers in the Men's room,..🤯😳
An alternative, I guess would be toilet paper?

I do the same thing because that has to be the dirtiest door handle in the world.
And if there’s air dryers my wife always has alcohol wipes and so do I in my truck!👋
Yes, I keep a hand sanitizer bottle in my car glove compartment. I buy for my relatives too. You can buy 3 packaged small bottles for $1, at the One Dollar Stores, that are in abundance now.
I would think that your wife is exposed to more human sickness in her job than you are yours.

Seems to me that your wife is exposed to more illness in her job than you are in yours. Can you catch many human diseases from cows, etc? I have read some place that people who bite or used to bite their fingernails are less prone to common illnesses because their bodies have been introduced to difference bacteria, etc.

These door handles are probably cleaner than all other handles one will touch in an average day since most people wash before exiting. If I am going to be preparing food I will wash my hands in a bowl of hot but bearable water with dish soap. I will clean under my nails with a toothpick also. I will then dry my hands on a clean paper towel. This is the procedure I use for making biscuits. If your hands are not going to be near your mouth, nose or eyes, you are probably not in any great danger. You can't germ proof your world and if you are never exposed to germs you will probably get deathly sick the first time you ingest one. We live in a time of germ phobia.
Recently, sat down in eatery. Woman came along w/cloth to clean the table. She wiped. Then put the glasses that were upside down back on the table.
Hope you get that image !!
