Great and somber photos. Personally, I've always found the Korean War memorial to be quite haunting.
Ops, if you look closer all 3 men have weapons, the one you said was a Quaker also has a side arm a 45 cal auto and a clip holder on his web belt, in the old U.S. Marines. I was a machine Gunner and carried the weapon so I had a side arm of the 45 auto, the A- gunner carried the Tri-Pod and his M-1 rifle and the ammo guy carried the boxes of ammo and his M- 1 Rifle

Thank you! I can easily understand how it could have that effect.
Thank you for adding this. It is interesting.
Very nice photo-log.
We have been there and witnessed the memorial.
It is "very moving" and brings a tear to ones eye.

Thank you, Brigitte! I felt the same when I was there and I feel it when I work with these photos.

I love your 'wall' pictures. Very impressive and awe inspiring. Also really like the 3 soldiers.

Thank you, Leek. I had photographed both the wall and the sculpture on previous trips but I felt that I captured more emotion this time.
[quote=Modnar]The Vietnam War memorial represents a platoon of infantry moving cautiously forward.all except one are carting their rifles. The man who is not is the medic, probably a Quaker.[/quote
It seems you have confused the Korean War Veterans Memorial, also in Washington DC, with the Three Soldiers Statue. The Korean War Veterans Memorial does indeed represent a platoon movement, and one soldier was cast as a Navy corpsman and not carrying a rifle.
Thanks to quagmire for mentioning this. Use of 'quote reply' would have helped clarify what his post was referencing.
The Three Soldiers Statue faces the Wall as if they are gazing at it. One thing that I just realized I missed is the Women’s Vietnam Memorial Statue. It is a short walk from The Three Soldiers but I didn’t go in that direction.

There is a very somber area at one end of the Mall in Washington. Yesterday, I posted pictures of the Korean War Memorial. It is situated next to the Lincoln Memorial. We felt honored to see a large group of veterans on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. They had flown to DC on a Flight of Remembrance to see the memorials that honored their service as well as a few other inspiring sights. Directly beyond the Lincoln Memorial is the Vietnam War Memorial - The Wall. The atmosphere at The Wall is somber and respectful. Even young children seem to sense this and walk quietly with their families.
Looking at these shots and thinking about their meaning as I write this post, I feel filled with pride and thankfulness.

Beautiful photos ... they fit the mood of their subject. I had a little bit of time in this general area a couple of years ago but didn't get to see those things. Not enough time. I appreciate you sharing. <3
