Similar size and shape to the Canon SX50 I used for several years, so comfortable in that way. The 14-140 mm lens I purchased is half the length and diameter of similar 18-135 for the APS-C camera Canon T3i. I like the feature of black and white view through EVF (sharp and bright EVF) while shooting raw. Always appreciate a rotating LCD (had that on both previous cameras). The in-camera pano is fun.

Haven't been shooting much this year, but enjoyed it very much in 2017, 2018.

Thanks! I thought of one downside to the camera: the knobs on top for changing aperture and shutter speed are easily moved accidentally. But if one is paying attention, given the real-time exposure when using the EVF, it's not a major issue.

Try page 151 of the 400-page user manual, especially the tracking and the face detect features.

If you can get a G7 at a nearly give-away price,
then you should buy that bargain cuz it's a very
good camera. And at such price, you'd be quite
foolish to be asking us these questions. At such
price you'd be wiser to be practicing with your
new-to-you G7 right now :-)

OTOH, if NOT available for pocket money, you'll
likely be better of with the current waaaay low
prices on the G85, new or clean used example.
The G85 is the very same camera as the G7 but
with a few upgrades. No earthshaking changes,
no losses at all vs the G7, but quite worthwhile
improvements.

Again, a nearly free G7 beats buying a G85. But
for real money, the modest difference for a G85
makes buying a G7 a poor choice.

BTW, do not confuse the G85 with the GX85,
despite the switchover to double-digit naming.

==========================

I use many Lumix bodies including a G85. I use
rather "obsolete" models as well as the current
flagship. With that mixed bag in use, I can say
that the G85 is better than all earlier models in
ways that really matter. I can also say that it is
clearly just the next rung right under my G9. I
do assume that the G85 is up for replacement
soon, given it's current tumble in price. But the
current price is irresistible for such a camera. I
can say that cuz I certainy didn't NEED it when
I bought it anyway [already had the G9].

But I wanna be clear, again, that a G7, bought
for pocket money, is still a verrrry fine choice !

That is one of the worthwhile improvements
made to the "G7 Mark-II" ... which, literally,
is the G85. The G85 is an ugraded G7, and
one of the upgrades is spash resistant seals
around the controls. The seals have added a
useful resistance to the dials so they don't
easily spin accidentally.

A real two-fer: Dust and splash resistance,
plus better behaved dials, both from one fix.

IIRC, it CAN do that. Not by accident
or malfunction. It's a menu thing and
not peculiar to the G7. Many cameras
do various approaches to a "pre-focus
AF". Often an eye sensor, located near
the eyepiece, can be set up to trigger
AF even before you touch any buttons.

Lumix calls it "eye sensor AF" on page
37 of the G85 manual. G7 should be
the same or very similar.

-------------------------------------------
From Lumix G7 PR lit, about focusing:

"One Shot AF, Shutter AF, 1/2 Press
Release, Quick AF, Continuous AF
(during motion picture recording),
Eye Sensor AF, AF+MF, MF Assist,
Touch MF Assist, Focus Peaking,
Touch AF/AE Function, Touch Pad AF,
Touch Shutter
"
