Well this is something I never thought I would say ...... “aren’t the hairs on a crabs legs interesting”. Ok so they are probably not hairs but that’s what they look like to me. I wonder how many of the tiny stone-like fragments in the first picture are plastic?
Once again my macro lens has revealed amazing detail I’ve not seen before.
I’ve posted my favourites and a, probably not quite macro, picture of the complete specimen. Hopefully, weather permitting, I’ll go looking for a live one tomorrow.
I think it is ok to call them hairs. But a variety of other technical names are also used: bristles, setae, etc.
Nice pictures and an interesting post.

Nice shots! #2 would be a good "guess what I am" photo!
Thanks for taking the time to comment and the kind words Mark, napabob, Linda, raymondh and Jeff D
Much appreciated.
Very well done and images of something seldom seen. You're correct about 'microplastics' as a source of ocean pollution that affects a large majority of life now including our own.
