Another try...here's an image many of you have seen recently...and then after being colorized/duo toned, or what ever this is...

I'm pretty sure I could not repeat this.

Easy to get lost. I'll check names of filters and presets I used from On1. Meanwhile, Try the free on line Lunapic.com under filters I think --- One image. First the image and conversion. The last 2 would be considered duo tones because they have 2 color tones in them. Lunapc is the easiest to use.

...saw this a little late: here's an infrared I just processed (shot with my "new" Sony A7 590nm conversion)...not quite "two" colors but bipolar in its own way. ;0)

This challenge is about creating an image of basically 2 colors (William, you excel at this!) There are many different ways to create a two tone image. Lightroom, Photoshop, on line programs such as lunapic. There are some on line articles as well. The starter image is of the hood ornament of a rusty Ford truck. I'd like to see what you can do. Some programs have "presets" that make it easy - others, not so easy. The first screen shot was part of an article on how to create duo tone in Lightroom followed by the image done several ways. Some "Vintage" or LUT presets (a file that transforms one range of colors in an image to another range of colors). LUTs are a form of "Color Grading" (another term you might see in your program.)

If this is new to you, give it a try. Sometimes the results can be amazing - others, not so. Look for duo tones in advertisements, flyers and brochures. Perhaps they've not caught your attention before.
This challenge is about creating an image of basic... (show quote)

Never heard of "Duo tone", is this similar to Black & White Photography?

These are excellent examples, kippertoes, and are the kind of image often seen in brochures etc. Now you're challenging me to learn to do it in PS!

Thanks Pat - and trust me, it's easier in PS than you'd think was possible!

p5. Karin - did you use a preset for your tree trunk? It is closest to "two tone"

Yes, Smart Photo Editor has a number of gallery duotone presets, makes it easy to get that effect.
